wow i read about the greek yogurt and i guess i am gonna stay away from the flavored ones now.
my question is about flour tortillas. can those be eaten?  i had my lapband surgery on 9/14/10.  i take it the dumping is throwing up and when i ate the flavored yogurt i did not throw up.

i still do not have any signs when i am full. but stop early. i would rather have my belly grumbling than be too full and throw up.

i would like to make tacos and use up some of the tomatoes from our garden. i have not tried lettuce yet little scared too. and i could skip the tortillas, just have the meat, tomatoes, cheese. but i was wondering if anyone has eaten any. i know they have some protein. and i know they have flour and corn ones.

so far i have lost 6.5 lbs since the surgery, and i haven't been able to exercise that much. i had to go back into the hospital the next week after my lapband surgery for eye surgery. and right now i cannot do anything that would cause any kind of pressure in my head, so all i am doing is walking and trying to eat right. i feel kinda lost.

Hi from one fellow lapbander to another!  Let's see if I can help you a little.  First, as a bander you will not dump.  This is not a green light to eat all the sugar you want though.  We absorb all nutrients from foods.

You had surgery two weeks ago so that should probably put you in the pureed/soft food stage.  But I am not sure what your doctor or nutritionists orders are.  Stick with them.  Right now your body needs time to adjust to the band and let the sutures heal so you don't have complications later on down the road.

Because you are two weeks out you do not have restriction yet.  Once you start getting fills you will get restriction but it usually takes awhile.  The slower the better in my opinion.  For me, it was a learning curve after every fill.

I love my band - even though the journey hasn't always been easy.  Let me know if you have any questions... I will be around a lot this week.

Hope this helped,
Beth

You are still way too early out to be so worried.  I don't have a band, but you just had surgery.  You are not going to feel full yet.   I don't think you will dump with a band, but I'm not sure.  I'm sure someone with a band will chime in on that topic.

Regarding what you can eat, go by the guidelines your surgeon gave you.  Every surgeon is different, but I would think at just 2 weeks out, you would not be eating anything that solid.

6.5 lbs since surgery is great!  You should not be doing too much exercise yet.  You have to build up to it.  If you are walking and eating right, then you are well on your way to doing great with your tool.

Keep up the great work and keeping coming here for advice.  We'll do the best we can.

Lisa,
are there any groups in the Lehigh Valley, other than at the LVH, that get together on a regular basis, to talk, swap recipes, support etc., that you know of?

Why yes I do, as a matter of fact.  Our very own Liz hosts a cooking class/informal support group once a month at her home just outside of Easton.  I have gone to most of them over the past year and a half and have to say that even though there are no "professionals" there, we still get the best support, recipes, etc.  Here is a link for this month's info:

Besides this, I know St. Lukes and Westfield offer support groups.  I used to go to Westfield's, but did not like the format.  That was just personal preference and you may feel different.  It just wasn't for me.

Take your chees and put it in the bottom of a warm saute pan.  Let it melt up then remove and let it set.  Should make a somewhat crispy base for a "taco."  You can shape the still soft cheese over a rolling pin or ja to make a more realistic shell.

I wouldn't eat a regular tortilla yet.  Wait for your Dr.  When it's time, there are whole wheat and whole grain tortillas that taste pretty good and are more nutritious than plain flour.

I use them to make breakfast wraps with egg, chicken, or beef but I'm 3.5 years out.  Patience...they will come.

I know for me... and I'm not a lapbander... and we eat tacos a lot in our house... I couldn't touch a tortilla for about 8m... and at that point I had to toast it (aka dry skillet- toss in till it dries out and then flip)... and I could only eat a quarter of it... but I only use the 8in or smaller and they are about 15g of carbs...
