I see that everyones information that has posted a reply to this topic has had a RNY procedure done. Do you experience dumping alot? Is it just a once in a blue moon thing? Is it mostly sugar free stuff that causes a problem, or does regular food also sometimes cause problems with dumping as well?
I'm just curious because I actually was diagnosed with rapid gastric emptying a year ago, which is just a different name for gastric dumping syndrome. Apparently it's not too common to have gastric dumping without having bypass surgery, but I guess it's just the luck of the Irish that I'm one of the lucky ones.. One of the reasons that I went with a banding procedure instead of a bypass procedure is that the band is supposed to help slow my stomach down and keep me from having problems with dumping. So far it seems to be working, and hopefully it stays that way. *KNOCK ON WOOD*
To answer your question about dumping. It really depepends on the individual. Some RNY folks dump very easily and others not at all. I experience mild to moderate dumping if I eat foods with more than 9 grams of sugar per serving. I tend to have a worse reaction to sugar alcohols. My dumping symptoms are: sweating, heart racing, the runs, and an over all "I have to lay down" feeling.
Good luck with your band!

Weis carries all the Sugar free versions, not just the low sugar. I did the brownies and added walnuts and cut them small and we were find. I made the choco cake and frosting and yep- had the laxative effect on me. I would have been ok because I only ever eat a bite or two of sweet stuff, but as I was cooking meals that day I kept getting a bite of what frosting was left and I was up at 1am running! But, if you make cupcakes, maybe don't frost them, or just have 1/4 or 1/2 of a serving you shoud be fine. I dump really easy on odd things so I was worried, but I did pretty well. I look at getting the runs as losing the calories I took in so no biggie LOL!. The good news is they are very yummy alternatives if you need a cake for something. I want to try to reduced sugar cookies to see how they do so I can make them for the kids.
