Chobani and a general sugar question
I LOVE the Chobani greek yogurt! But WOW the sugar is 20g! Why don't I dump? The sugar in the ingredients list says "evaporated cane juice" and I googled it. It's pretty much the same thing as sugar but supposedly not as processed, has a little more nutrients, blah, blah, blah...
I also learned that evaporated cane juice is also "Turbinado" sugar. Has anyone used that?
How many grams of sugar before you dump if you do at all?
I'm guessing that some of the sugars are from the dairy itself. What do you think?

Are you eating the flavored greek yogurt? I know that has a lot of sugar per serving, but maybe you're not eating a full serving and that's why you're not dumping? Then again, maybe you're a non-dumper? Has sugar affected you before?
I dump, so the only greek yogurt I eat is the unflavored, and I flavor it with sf jelly. All of the other yogurts on the market have too much sugar for me.
I'm not sure the evaporated cane juice is different or not - I think I have an overly-sensitive pouch as I cannot eat some fruits (pineapple = ). Could just be me...

Judging a food's "worthiness" by whether you dump on it or not isn't necessarily a productive way to approach this journey. Many of us don't dump (I don't)... I've seen statistics that only about 40% of WLS patients actually dump on sugar.
Guidelines from my surgeon and nutritionist are to avoid any food with more than 2g of ADDED sugars. If a nutrition label has a number higher than 2 for the sugar, look at the ingredients. If any of the following are listed in the first 5 ingredients, avoid the item:

I live in Podunk, PA, so, Plain Chobani hasn't made it here yet. Just the fruit flavored. Naturally, I assumed that was what others were eating when I see it on the "what r u eating today" post. I'll look for the plain in other stores.
I ate the blueberry yogurt and THEN read the sugars. I was pretty worried for about an hour, then I never had any problems.WHEW! But that was unintentional.
I'll lay off the chobani for now.
Thanks everyone!

There are a lot of brands out there to chose from:
Oikos, Chobani, Fage, Brown Cow, etc.
Always chose the plain fat free. I have found that Oikos is the least tardiest. I mix mine with Sugar Free Fat Free Jello Instant Pudding & Pie Filling Powder (4 tsp = 1 svg). The Pistachio Pudding Mix is very good. I have also done 2 tsp vanilla powder, 2 tsp. cheesecake powder, 1 Tbsp. Smucker Sugar Free Jam. Banana Cream isn't bad either. Chocolate doesn't really do anything for me.
