Still on Track for Monday

Three more days of the liquids and I report to Barix at 6:15am on Monday for the big event.  Believe me this week has been a roller coaster and somehow I still think I will actually show up for surgery,  I know it will work and make me healthy faster than I can on my own - if I could do it on my own.  The weight is one thing but the high BP and sugars are killing me slowly and I feel so weak most of the time.  That is why I am doing this!  To feel better, right?

I am still trying to wrap my head around eating such small amounts for the rest of my life.  For 6 months, sure, but forever???  I am going to be leaning on you guys big time for some mental health at some point.  Hope you'll invite me over to the post-op group at the 1st Saturday meeting!

So please send some good thoughts my way for Monday and I will post again when I am able.  Not sure when that might be as I don't have a computer at home.  Take care and thanks to everyone.

Scot,

I'm really excited for you!!!  I remember being terrified pre-op, wondering if I was doing the right thing.  And I almost changed my mind the morning of my surgery!  But I got on OH that morning, and after reading a post by Pam P, I knew this was what I wanted and needed to do.  (Don't ask me what the post said---I have no idea now!)  You're taking your health into your hands, which is the best thing you can do!!   And Barix is an awesome place---love the docs, nurses, aides, everyone there!!!

We're here for you for whatever you need!!!  Good luck!!!  Is there someone who can post how you're doing after surgery?  I'd be happy to do it if you can have someone text or call me.  My cell is 484-716-2533.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, uneventful surgery, and lots of wow moments along your journey.  Your doing the right thing, you won't regret it.  Even though your eating smaller portions, as time goes by your appetite will increase, its up to you to keep them small and not let them get out of control.

Some days your the dog and some days your the hydrant.

Scott,   You will be fine AND, you will be amazed with yourself after that you really CAN stick to eating the small portions because a) you will be scared, b) you won’t be able to c) you will be scared and d) you won’t be able to.   Keep your cell with you and send one of us a text as soon as you are back amongst the coherent world.  My cell is 908-812-3139 – feel free to reach out.   You will be fine!   Maura

Wow Scot - the big day is almost here!! And being nervous is all part of the process - wondering what life will be like post-op - all those feelings are very normal, but as you can see most of us out here are pretty normal, and I honestly have never heard one person on this board say they regret their decision to have the surgery - and once you have it you will realize how much LIFE you have been depriving yourself of and how your life really doesn't need to revolve around food - it needs to revolve around living. You'll still encounter foodies, and it will frighten you - at first - but along your journey you will learn the tools and tricks to avoid temptation during those situations, and feeling better is going to be so much more wonderful than that big meal would.

Instead of focusing on only being able to eat small amounts of food, focus on other things - the fact that you can buy clothing ANYWHERE after your surgery - and it won't cost you more. Focus on getting off some of those meds you're on now - saving yourself money and feeling so much better. Focus on wanting to get up and go do things because now you can - focus on being a healthier, happier person and being around for a long, long time.

Best wishes to you on Monday if I don't get a chance to get back on board - you're going to do great!!

Scot You are going to do great! You are in wonderful hands.

I forget if you are married or not but if you want to have whoever is with you call or text one of us (my cell is 610-462-1204) we'd be happy to let everyone know you are recovering and doing well.

AS for the smaller portions you get used to it. Infact your portions are so small right after surgery that by a year or two out it seems like you are eating a lot! lol I just ate about 4oz of steak, 1/8 cup of corn and the same amount of diced potatoes. I am full and totally satisfied. I am 3 1/2 years out.

Good luck on monday!!

Scot,
To me this was the most nerve wracking time, the weekend before the surgery. (mine was on a Monday also)  But as someone else has mentioned, the fact that you will more than likely be off most of your meds. in itself is worth it.  The weight loss will be amazing, and you will not regret it in the least.  Good Luck, although you won't need it, you will do great!!!  Keep us posted.
Hugs Ena
