How long did it take you?

From the time you had your surgery, how long until you "bottomed out"? When did you stop losing weight? and were you close to your goal?

I only seem to lose weight the week before my cycle. Then I stay the same for 3 weeks.

I'm curious to see what others say.

Thanks!

It's been a while, but as memory serves me I stabilized at about a year out, I lost slowly (REALLY REALLY slowly for another 6 months) then maintained, had my gallbladder out at almost 2 years out and lost some more weight, had a baby at 3 1/2 years out and lost a little more. I am not about 20 pounds from goal.

Good luck!

Odd- you are describing exactly what started to happen when the weight started to come off really slowly for me.  I think my ideal body weight was about 150-160 ish- never was my goal...so I hit about 175-178.  I was perfectly happy there.  Felt so healthy and stable.  I will be listening to what others experienced too.

I stopped losing around 1 year. I am 20 pounds from goal. I've maintained my current weight for a year and half now.  I now flucuate up and down 5 pounds.

A lot depends on how much you have to lose - I had a lot to lose so I after about 18 months mine really slowed and I've been holding steady since then - now 2.5 years out. Never reached my own personal goal but my surgeon was very pleased with how much I had lost.

Remember, the way they calculate the weight loss is losing a certain percentage of your EXCESS weight, which doesn't necessarily meeting a weight chart goal for a lot of people. In order for me to attain the insurance weight charts I would need to lose another 75-100 pounds, and trust me, not only is that relatively impossible, but I would look like crap.

I am very thrilled with where my weight is now compared to where I came from - and very healthy. I think that's more important than the numbers on the scale.

My surgery was 1 month before yours.  In the last 10 weeks my weight lose has slowed to about 1/2 pound every two weeks...that is until I went on a liquid diet due to my motorcycle accident on Saturday.  I have broke the 10 week stall is a big way.  I do not recommend having a motorcycle accident, but the liquid diet for just a couple of days semmed to jump start the weight loss mechanism.  I am on it until Moday when I see the dentist after work.   I just hope once I start eating again I do not gain any of it back...that would be depressing.  I have heard of the 9 month stall...maybe this is yours.  Good luck.

Imy surgery was a week after you and I still lost 6 lbs last month.  I do excercise 3 to 4 times a week - who knows what this month will bring. The past 2 to 3 months I have noticed that I stall for 2 to 3 weeks before my cycle and then actually lose when my cycle starts.

My surgery was 2 weeks before Maura and I am in pretty much the same boat she is in.  I still lose about 6 pounds a month but I work out like a fiend and work with a trainer 2 times a week for weight training.  I find that I usually lose only once a month-- basically I stall for weeks and then it falls off seemingly overnight.  It has been frustrating but I have basically stopped stressing over the scale so maybe it is a good thing!

It really does depend on SOOOOOO much.  How much weight you have to lose.  How compliant you are with exercise etc.

Look at Nan....I think she's 4 years out maybe...and still losing and/or recently reached her personal goal weight.

All that being said...I was stabilized at about 10 mos out.  I had dropped below a good weight for me...without trying...and then bounced back up to my "goal" weight of between 130-135 without changing anything yet again.

Of course now I have an additional 15 pounds on top of that which is sticking to me like contact cement....but that's a whole other post lol

If you want to try to encourage more loss by your body, change EVERYTHING up.  Food choices, exercise choices, etc!  Nan, once again, is the guru for food.  Norm can give some damn good advice on exercise!

I am 14 months out and have not lost weight in 2 months. However, my entire summer has been busy with travel and eating meals away from home. I have done well with managing it, but it does make a difference. Also, I had a knee injury and surgery so have not been a regular at exercise in about 6 weeks...well, physical therapy, but it's not the same thing.

I would like to lose 10 more lbs. But realize that this could take a while. If I lose 5 by Christmas, I will be thrilled.

My joke is that at this stage, losing a pound is like chiseling granite without a nail file. My doctor says that it is all dependent on diet and exercise, so vigilance is a must.
