***Thrilling Thursday Roll Call***

Good Morning PA,

Can’t sleep well due to weird sleep with the surgery junk going on.  Could be 4-6 weeks before I feel the results of the procedure.

Thursday is a bit weird as well.  I did not get to my AA meeting on Wednesday, so that is my first priority.  Gotta share my 8 month anniversary successing.  Then, I must hit the pool and loosen up the tight muscles and attempt some cardio.  Then, I will head over to my church to view a DVD that I will miss tonight during the regularly scheduled Bible study.

At supper time, I have an appointment with my psychiatrist.  I need to discuss some stuff that came up over the weekend with him.  Then, after that, I must run up to Bucks County Community College, because I am now the Recording Secretary for the Bucks County Special Olympics Management Team.  I have been volunteering with Special Olympics for ages, but in a low profile, background sort of way.  Now, I will be more involved, as this is a regular monthly commitment, and I will be helping more hands on than before.  My nephew was born with severe learning deficits, and then developed some emotional problems in high school.  He is our family’s athlete.  Since my brother, his Dad, passed away three years ago, my family pitches in more, as Jack was an assistant coach and very heavily involved.

Have a great day.

Hugs,

Trish

Hi Trish & everyone else,
I too am unable to sleep, but that's because I'm just a night owl..  I've tried going back to a "normal" schedule, but it just isn't working.  And since I'm going back to work next week or the week after, it'd be foolish to try changing my schedule now..  But I imagine the first few 12 hour shifts back at work are going to be hard!

As for me, I have a few errands to do...  I need to go to my surgeons office to get weighed, go to my primary doctors to pickup some paperwork, go to Quest to get some blood drawn, go shopping to get some new shoes, and then run a few other places as well.  Nothing too exciting...

Anyways, hope that everyone has a great day!

Hi David,

Congrats on being on the Losers Bench.  The first couple of weeks back to work were hard on me as well.  I had a lot of anxiety about making sure I had enough food to meet my goals, as well as water bottles.  Packing my lunches ensured that I would not make unhealthy choices, or runs to Wawa for Munchies.  I used to put a banner in my class that said, “If we fail to plan, then we plan to fail."

Hugs,

Trish

One thing that I definitely am a little worried about is eating at work.  I don't get a lunch break, I just get a 15 minute break every 3 hours or so..  So I will be able to go outside for a few minutes, and then heat up my food, and then go back to my console to work and eat.  It will probably be hard getting 30 chews in with every bite, because I'll have to be answering phones and/or talking on the radio between bites.  But oh well, I'm sure that I will survive.

And I see that you mentioned something about a surgery.  I hope that you're feeling better!

Hi David,

I understand your concern about chewing and eating fast.  When I first had the surgery, I scarfed my food down at lunch, because of time constraints and then got ill the next class I taught.  It was not pretty..

What I had to do was switch up my eating schedule and eat my time consuming part of a meal during a longer break.

For your situation, I can only suggest packing food that does not require as much chewing.   I buy a lot of small Ziploc containers for leftovers to eat the next day.  Some suggestions I can think of are cottage cheese, yogurt, leftover meatloaf, chili, scrambled eggs, puddings, cheese sticks and whole grain crackers, and stuff like that.  For something sweet, you can pack applesauce, and other fruit cups already packaged in small containers.    Salads and sandwiches are time consuming things that take a lot of chewing.  Of course protein shakes are handy as well.

The beginning is trial and error.  Give yourself time and keep a food journal to track what foods work, and what foods are better for when you are home.

Hugs,

Trish

I don't really get a lunch break either or well any other breaks (other then the potty! lol) but I find eating at work easier then at home. I have all my healthy snacks and lots of water readily available. I always have a stash in my desk drawer too of nuts, chicken bullion, tea etc just in case I get tied up and can't get away. I also pack "easy" and safe foods that I know I can eat more quickly if needed . Lunchmeat roll ups, ricotta cheese, cheese sticks, yogurt and fruit, fresh fruit etc.

Good luck!

Breaks with us are hit or miss.  And, certainly one break for us surg folks who are supposed to eat more frequently than that....well, obviously doesn't work amazingly well.

I agree with what's been said.  I eat at the desk most of the time (despite being told I shouldn't...but thankfully it's night shift so management isn't to obtrusive)  I tend to stick to the same basic things...string cheese, ricotta cheese, yogurts, protein bars.

I eat a decent meal when I get to work (I get there early just for this reason)  Then every couple of hours I break out with a yogurt or something.  On my "break" I try to get in something fairly solid - but it's much less of a quantity I would eat if I were home.  Think 2 ounces of meat instead of 3-4.

I also keep some pre measured protein powder in my locker (little baggies of powder in my bag....I'm sure it looks soooooo good lol) just in case, there's always milk available where I work....

Ahhhhh....another nighter!  What do you do?

I'm an overnight ER nurse...and yup - reversing sucks!

But I think days or nights, it's an adjustment going back to work after surgery.

Good luck!

HI Trish.. sorry you are having problems sleeping.  I hope you get relief soon.

I am still awake because Bron just left.  He came down after work to visit for a few hours.  I wasn't sure if he was spending the night or not, and guess what.. he didn't.  I did get the chance to ask him some questions about himself that we never seem to have time to talk about.  Nothing too serious, just trying to get more of an idea of who he is besides the man who watches a lot of TV/sports/live-action movies and the man who likes to go out and have fun.   He's a lot of fun and I like him, but I'm still just not sure about him.  I don't want to cut him out of my life just yet, but I do need to get to know him better.  We've been seeing each other since mid-May and I just don't feel like I really know him at all.    Any advice on that front???

Anyway, this is role call, so I'll be going to bed when I'm done.  When I wake up, it will be to get Siehara off to school and then work 7-3:30.  Today's Day of Caring was nice.  It was great to get out of the house and do something good and get to talk to some new people.  Of course, I also got some fantastic deals in the store!!! PLUS, because we volunteered, they gave us the 50% employee discount!!!  I got 2 pair of sneakers for me and 2 pair of shoes for Siehara for $4.. WHAT?!?!?!?  I got other stuff too and only spent $27

I digressed again, sorry.... lol...it's late.

At some point during the day tomorrow a friend of mine is going to go back to the Thrift Store to pick up the end table and coffee table I bought for $15!!   After work, I will do the homework dance with Siehara and then shlep her to Hebrew School.  While she is there, I am going to get my nails done.  After Hebrew School, I would love to go to bingo, but I didn't plan ahead for a sitter, so I'll probably end up at Pilates.  That is not a bad thing at all.  It will save me money and I LOVE PILATES so it's all good!!

Home after that to hopefully go to bed early.  I've had 2 late nights and need to catch up on rest.

Geez, I ramble when I'm tired.  I'm off to bed... hope everyone has a great Thursday.
