Ten Days and Counting
For anyone who wondered, yes I'm still here. I started my 10 day liquid diet today! Passed my second PAT last week and received some reassurance from Dr.Boe who I hadn't talked to since last November.
It has been a long road and I am still apprehensive about the whole thing, but I need to do this for my health and my life. I've had a lot of success pre-op and although I still think I can continue losing on my own, I know I can succeed with the surgery and the help of all of you.
I'm looking forward to being an active participant in the family I've found here. See you on the other side!

Hey, whats this "see you on the other side" business? You need to be checking in and updating us on how your pre-op diet is going and you will most likely get more anxious as the day gets closer and will need to talk to us. Use this support group all the way up to (and of course after) your surgery date. Thats what we are here for. Did you take your pictures and measurements yet? Also if you want to talk on the phone about anything feel free to send me a message and we will set that up too.

I knew you didn't go anywhere - I am thrilled for you and COMPLETELY understand teh apprehension - we ALL felt it at one point or another! Post about the liquid diet so we can be here to support you through this as well! Congrats and we can't wait to walk you through all the amazing stages that are coming up next! :)
Hi Scot! Welcome to Dr Boe's famous 10 day liquid diet - don't scoff at it either - I lost 17 lbs in 10 days on that diet, and that was after losing 33 lbs during my 3 month insurance requirement to have the surgery. So yeah, I went into surgery being 50 lbs down from my initial visit to Barix, but I still knew I needed Dr Boe and Barix to get me the rest of the way. Dr Boe will be extremely pleased if you stick to that diet because it'll make your liver nice and small and easy to work around inside - there's a method to his madness!! LOL!!
My biggest tip for the liquid diet is one that someone suggested to me - buy yourself GOOD canned chicken or beef soups - not condensed - drain the noodles and veggies off and just have the broth that's left. It is actually much more satisfying and tasty then just regular broth, and you can get the low-sodium kind if salt is an issue for you. I had that almost every night for dinner - hubby ate the noodles and veggies, or you can feed the garbage disposal. But trust me it is worth it because they do taste great.
Surgery is surgery and trust me I was nervous and scared the day I went in for mine, but the people at Barix are so wonderful and caring and before you know you're coming out of anesthesia and Dr Boe is checking on you and its all over and they'll have you up walking and sipping in no time!!
I wish you all the best - you're in great hands with Barix and Dr Boe, and you know we're always here for you.
Take care...Kathy

Thanks all for the great support as I know I will need it. Yes, I have done my pictures and measurements too. I've been basically living the post-op life and am 30+ pounds down pre-op. I'm hoping for 10 more before surgery which will make Dr.Boe have an easier time of it. He will be trying to take my gallbladder as well if he can.
I appreciate everyone putting up with my nervousness. Never having had surgery before and being 300 miles from home and family makes it kind of hard to manage the day to day highs and lows. I'm glad I can count on all of you!

Wow Scot your almost there. I had to do a 14 day liquid diet. After the first day the rest flew and before I knew it I was in the waiting room to be wheeled into surgery.
I was apprehensive going up to the surgery that is normal. I was fortunate that my hubby had walked this road 4 years prior to me so I had a lot of support here and at home. If not for key people here on OH and at the Barix support groups I would have given up on having the surgery. Because of this site and Barix support I fought to have my surgery even though I was told by the first surgeon that I chose I could not have surgery and no surgeon would even touch me. Proved him wrong!!!!! Sept. 14 will be my first surgiversary....I am looking forward to that day.....
Good luck!!!!!!
