OT-Job interview
Some time back, I posted about some job woes I have been going through. Here is an update - which is really a life update. Which really gets at a "confidence" update. Which may mean some big changes down the road!
Mike and I have bought a 2nd home in FL. This is sort of a vacation house which will eventually be our retirement home, at least part of the time. It's a GREAT house (well, condo actually, on a golf course with a pool right across the street - in the area that we liked BEST).
My job situation has continued to be taxing. Dicey. Exhausting. Frustrating. So I started to look at job postings on line - both in PA and in FL. The conversation then turned to the potential for me to work in FL and live in the house there. I would be "paving the way" for Mike's retirement and setting up our home there. In my book, that means figuring out where to get my hair cuts and finding a painless dentist!
So...I found one very cool posting for a job with a nonprofit in FL. Redid the resume...sent it off...confirmed with a phone call (because everything is electronic and you can only hope that it was received!). And...
They called!
I have an interview on Friday!
So I am back to FL on Thursday, prepping for an interview, and working like a crazy woman to get everything done in my current job so my absence on Friday is pretty invisible. But I am EXCITED!!!!
I am wearing a navy suit - size 8! with a pencil skirt!-and black slingback heels. Classic and traditional is still the word for interviewing, and my interview will be with the CEO of the organization. I googled her and she is a woman in her 60's, so conservative is safe.
Making mental notes for the last 48 hours on what to say about how my experience translates to this organization....
And REALLY thinking positive.
My last interview was 7 or 8 years ago, and I weighed over 200 lbs. After landing that job, I ballooned to 258 (stress, huge commute, disliked the job and culture there almost from the get go). I am having to do a lot of mental work to remind myself that I will make a different impression this time around because of my physical changes....and reminding myself that I DESERVE to feel more confident about this!
So think good thoughts for me over the next 48 hours or so. I'll be on line of course, while I travel, and will let ya know how it goes.
And oh yeah, if I got the job? Mike and I would be in a commuter marriage mode for a while. Scheduled weekends back and forth, plus his vacations in FL. We can work with that and have had friends over the years that have done it. We don't want anyone to think that the marriage is headed south....but some folks may assume that is the case. None of their business!

Wow Lynn that all sounds very exciting. I wish you luck in your interview and I hope that the job turns out to be what you want and need. There is nothing like finding a job that you like and are good at. Have safe travels this weekend and let us know how it goes.

Your confidence is showing, lady!! And that's fantastic! The outfit for the interview sounds perfect and I can honestly tell from your post that you are excited and will do great at it. And hey, some of the best marriages are long distance - LOL!! I know that won't be easy for you and your husband but you do have a plan - it sounds like you're both on board with this and that's all that really matters.
I wish you all the best on Friday - sounds like a wonderful opportunity - go down there and knock their socks off!!

Lynn,
It sounds like you've thought this out, done your research, and are thoroughly prepared... exactly the type of person I'd want to hire!
I'm sure it will be a very nice change of pace to go into the interview NOT worrying about their potential response to your appearance ;-). I know that was always a worry of mine, and I used to feel that I had to work much harder to overcome that potential perception. This time, you can relax, focus on your excellent skills and background, and win that job!
Sending all my good thoughts your way. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
