Problems

Had RNY in 2006...had two babies 08 & 09...started having this mysterious pain in my left side near one of my old RNY incisions.  I went to see PCP they said they felt it was reflux- unfamiliar, never had issues with it before.  I am thinking maybe some type of hernia or scar tissue issue.  It hurts like something is being squeezed- position changes trigger it (like bending over, turning certain ways.)  Can't get into my original RNY Dr's unless I private pay- cause they don't except my insurance, they referred me to another RNY group- who has refused to see me because I am not their patient.  Since my clinic is a surgery center for excellence the other office told me they are obligated to follow me?!  Long and short is that I am having this pain-(very doubtful I developed reflux-tried the meds- nada) and I have gained some weight and want to reconnect with my surgeons.  HELP- any suggestions or has anyone else run into these issues? Thank you for your support in advance

I would demand to be seen since they are a center of excellence. They can at least evaluate you and then send you to a in network GI Dr or whomever they feel you need to see. You could have scar tissue or a blockage this is not something I would play with. At the very least go see a GI in your network

I agree with Nicole.

I see a different RNY surgeon than my original one. Hershey is quite far for a doc visit so a surgeon in York got my records and sees me as needed. In fact, when I got an umbilical hernia he volunteered to take care of it since he is familiar with RNY surgery.

Good Luck.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Also,  report it to your insurance company... let the insurance company know you are trying to be seen by their center of excellence because your original surgeon is not in network.

Sorry you have the  admin headache on top of your pain....

Thanks everyone- I decided that I would also push from another angle (go to their surgical staff verse WLS staff)...so hopefully, these things will work.  I was also advised that sometimes, you can get Dr's to give an out of network referral- and I will be speaking with my insurance about the 'bind' I am in, because it appears none of the other list of Dr's that preform WLS take the insurance either?!  Thanks!
