Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome???

Hello All,

I just found out the results of my EMG that I had on Monday. I have tarsal tunnel syndrome which is just like carpal tunnel syndrome except it is in the foot! One of the possible treatments for this is Steroid injections. Is this something that I can do having RNY or should I stay far away??

I had steroid injections years ago pre surgery for heel spurs and I do not remember having any negative issues with it. I meant to ask this at support group today and totally forgot!!

Let me know what you think. Other options are physical therapy or just dealing with it!

I would guess injections are fine too.  I think the issue comes from our pouches trying to break down pills.  When in doubt, though, you could take Pepsid or Prilosec when getting injections.  Or call or email Dr P---she'll have the answers for you.

My sister in law has this and in order to take pressure off of her heels, she can't walk barefoot and wears shoes with a bit of a heel to change the pressure points per her doctor...  I hope the shots help the discomfort..

Beth,

Thought I'd pass along info I got from my family doc recently.  I have complete trust in this man, and I've been impressed with his support and knowledge of wls.  (Anyone in Delco that needs a family doc/internist, he's in Springfield, and I'd be happy to pass along his contact info.)  He's even up on the vitamins we need to take!

Anyway, he mentioned taking ibuprofen for something (can't remember how we got into the conversation), and I reminded him we're not supposed to take it.  He said we can on occasion, but that first we should take Pepsid Complete or Prilosec, then eat some food, then take the ibuprofen.  That way, it won't be as hard on the pouch, and he actually recommends this for anyone regardless of whether they had wls.

Good luck!!!  I hope you get some relief from your foot!!!

Ohh EMG's almost as much fun as root canal.

Since surgery I have had steriods via pill, shot, inhaler, and iv... haven't had any issues at all... well other than I had to have Annabelle a day early because my asthma wouldn't get under control from getting attacked by hornets...

When on the pill form I was told to eat 1/2 cup of food and then take it ... wait a half an hour and then eat the rest of the food... and I was taking massive doses of the stuff... never bugged my tummy or anything when I did it this way...
