Question - Liver Enzymes?

Anyone had their bloodwork reveal high liver enzymes?  Mine just did (@80) and I'm going back for a 2nd draw.

I don't drink.
I don't have any pain (ie. gallstones)
I don't sleep around
I don't do drugs

Any ideas?  Stories to share?  Medical articles about our patient population??

Mine were also elevated with recent bloodwork. PCP said it could have been that the blood got hot - spun too long or just sat too long before being tested. I also got a letter from Dr Boe my RNY surgeon and he said it is very common among gastric bypass patients. Mine was 7.8 - normal level is around 7 so it wasn't too bad. Have it retested and see what it does - talk to your surgeon if it's still high. Good luck.

Ps: I did have a glass of wine the night before but the doctor said that wouldn't affect it.

I'll have to double check the actual metric they were referencing.... high point should have been 42 and mine was 80.  Don't know excatly which one it was.  Full results coming in the mail... then I'll be a googling fool ;)

we'll see how this plays out.

Did you have diabetes pre-surg??    Metabolic Syndrome X could put these a little higher, meaning your liver is having to work a little harder doing the overflow of the pancreas' job.

My liver enzymes were elevated prior to surgery.  The cause Fatty Liver Disease.  As I've lost weight my liver enzymes have been coming steadly down, doc is pleased with that.

When I visit my gastro doc in September I'm hoping for them to be in the normal range.  Prior to surgery she told me I was a year away from being put on the liver transplant list.  High liver enzymes caused by a Fatty Liver was a co-morbitidy for me to have surgery.

I will be a year out from surgery on Sept. 14 and have lost approximately 70 pounds to date.

I had the same reaction you are having, I don't drink, don't sleep around, no drugs, etc.....when they sent me to the gastro doc before my gastric bypass surgeon would firm up and commit to the surgery date for me.  Once it was determined I had fatty liver disease my surgery happened as scheduled.

Thanks Ida - we'll see how this plays out.  I was 'normal' (aside from being morbidly obese) with this...and i've had blood drawn several times.  This is the first time this one threw a flag.  Once I get the full bloodwork i'll refernce the exact measurement.

your welcome.  I hope your next blood work inproves or they can give you a good reason for this happening.  I think I read somewhere about this happening to some after their WLS.  If I find the article or remember where I found it I'll send it your way.

For my 6 month check-up and my 1 year check-up my liver enzymes were high. My surgeon Dr. Boe said it is expected after a gastric bypass and that they will eventually come down. But I know how you feel it concerns me too. But, Dr. Boe did not seem at all concerned about it.

When you get the results, feel free to email them to me and I can make a bit better sense out of it all hopefully with all the numbers in front of me.

Good luck!
