Feeling a little frustrated

Good morning all,

I am feeling a little frustrated from all the flack I have been getting from my Nutritionist and support group people.  I am 5'10 and weigh 161 pounds and everyone is telling me HOW CONCERNED they are about how thin I am.  They are relentless and just don't give up.  It drives me bonkers!!!!

When I lost 100 pounds on weigh****chers about 10 years ago, I had gotten down to 160 pounds I was just fine and maintained my weight there for several years.  This time around, I initially set a goal of 170 pounds, but when I got there, figured I could lose a few more.

My weight loss has really slowed down now as I am really not trying to actively lose at all.  Truth be told, I really would not be upset losing 5 more pounds and going down to 156 pounds, but really am not focused on it or freaked out by it.  My BMI is 23.1 which is on the upper side of the normal range.  The weight charts for my build say my weight should be between 151 and 163, so I am also on the high side of the chart on there as well.

I know my friends in group care and that is why they are concerned, but I am letting my body dictate to me where my right weight should be.  It is just driving me nuts constantly getting lectured.  I really try to let it roll off my shoulders, but it gets to me.  They are just not taking the hint and backing off.

It just amazes me how everyone thinks they have the right answers.  I don't think that any of us really do.  I think it is a constant learning lesson for us.

Any suggestions on how to get these people who I think are so wonderful to get off my back?

I appreciate the input.

Geoff

It's interesting that your nutritionist is saying something as well.  Friends, family, support group....most of that is because people just aren't used to seeing you "that" way - and it's a huge adjustment for them as well.  Just like it takes our brains to catch up to our eyes....it does their too.

My standard answer was "I appreciate your concern, but I am being followed closely by my doctor and my nutrionist and they are both completely fine with where I am, and I am doing it safely and effectively"  Now...I don't know about the nutrionist thing on  your end....

Also, just to be aware, I dropped about 5 pounds below my target weight, looked horrible...and people were legitametly concerned and in all honesty, so was I, because I also wasn't trying to lose weight at that time. But within a month or so I jumped back up into the "normal" range....and again, that was without trying as well.  Hadn't changed anything before, hadn't changed anything after and my body settled into it's weight nicely.  Firmly and politely tell them that you appreciate their concern but it is disturbing to be constantly bombarded with such statements when you know what you are doing is for  your best health.

Hang in there...they really all do mean well.

You have been thru a lot lately with the accident and all the pain you've been dealing with. It may be making you appear drawn and gaunt and that could be causing them concern. When I was losing so fast I went thru periods where I looked like crap and people told me the same thing. If your dr is happy with your weight and you are happy then try to ignore the comments until they get used to the new you. Hang tough. It will get better. Kathy

Thanks guys,

As you can tell.  They really wore me down at group last night.  Didn't sleep very well.

Hey have you guys tried the Ostrich stick they sell at the Vitamin Shoppe.  It is 80 calories and 14g of protein.  It is really very good.  I got the natural flavor.  It is like a slim jim but bigger and more filling.

:-)

I know it can be very frustrating - the same people who told me I looked like crap when I was losing were also the same people who were so concerned about me when I was almost 400 lbs. So sometimes it feels like you can't win or please anyone. But like Pam said, your body is going to adjust to a comfortable weight and then everything else will sort of catch up. I know I looked like crap at times during my weight loss - probably because protein levels were down, or I was just losing so fast that my face and hair and everything else didn't have a chance to catch up. Of course now I wish I was still losing that fast - LOL!! But you have to find what is comfortable for you, and I'm guessing if you're dealing with so much pain right now that the additional lbs you've taken off can only help that.

Ostrich stick, eh? Nope, never heard of them but there is a Vitamin Shoppe close to my house - are they tough, tho? Because I know a lot of people on here eat beef jerky and my pouch does not like that one bit - its way too tough. But if this stick thing isn't tough it would be a good alternative to protein bars in my purse once in a while.

Are they chewy like beef jerky or softer like slim jim's? Maybe I'll just go on line and order some and try them - even if I can't eat them my husband will - the man will eat anything!! Thanks.

They are thicker then a regular slim jim but have the same texture. I liked the teryaki flavor one. It was a nice when we were on vacation last year to have a snack I used to eat it in two servings.

Kathy,

I'm guessing Geoff is talking about the Ostrim sticks.  I have them and would say they're on the soft side, a little softer than Slim Jims.  They're low fat and high protein.

Thanks - I just went on to Barix website and ordered some of those and some of the new snacks and protein bars they have - see how I like them. Trying to break away from the carby snacks and stuff I've been leaning on - shake things up a bit - try to jump start some weight loss again. Been holding steady for a year now but would like to lose some more.
