A Girl, A Date, and A Freakout

 Hiya!
I haven't posted a whole lot since joing in May, but I've been around and lurking. I completed my pre-op testing yesterday, but wouldn't complete my 3 months medically supervised diet until Sept 7th. I called my surgeon's office to give them a head's up, when the assistant told me as per my insurance I didn't need medically supervised diet AT ALL and that looking at my chart I would definitely be approved and most likely by Friday. I could've been upset that I've been waiting and paying for this class for NO REASON and could have had my surgery a month and a half ago (the dietician at my first visit said I had to take it, so I'm confused) but now that I have a date i realize I most likely would not have been ready as I do not feel ready NOW. Can you imagine my shock when the assistant offered me September 2 as a surgery date?!?! That's exactly two mere weeks away!!! I started shaking and got all teary eyed and the assistant says "ooooh you're getting quiet now, its so real now!"
I DO want to get it over with, but I feel like I need a crash course in what to do and not do, and what to expect....WLS for Dummies? do they make that? LOL

Congratulations on getting your date - awesome! And your feelings are very normal - I waited a long time for my date and when it came in I freaked out too. Yep - now it's real!!

You don't need a crash course - just keep coming here and try to make actual meetings somewhere and that will help you thru all this.

Congrats again!! Kathy

Congratulations on your date!  I freaked out as well and I went through a six month supervised, plus some.

Keep coming here, research what you can, but most importantly follow your surgeon's plan and your nut's plan.

Good luck!

LOL - yes, there is a weight loss surgery for dummies book!  I bought it..

a few thoughts..

buy some sample protein powders - get some different sample packs so that you can try a bunch before making the investment on large containers

get small containers (1/2 cup to 1 cup size) for packing food with you when you get to soft / real foods
get a kitchen scale for weighing foods
consider getting a magic bullet  - it works very well (it is small and works well for pureeing small amounts of food)

Congratulations on getting it scheduled!

Congrats on your date!!  I agree with getting small sized containers to help with portion control and to get a mini blender.  I am almost 18 mos out and brought my mini blender with me on vacation so I could make my shakes.  It is a great tool to have.

Just follow dr's orders and maybe pick up WLS for Dummies.  Stick around here and post any questions you have.  We are all here to help out in any way we can.

Good luck and we'll be sliding down!
