***Monday Madness workout***
Got my butt back to the gym today after a weekend of poor eating and adult beveraging. Good news is Friday night I did spend a good couple of hours dancing the night away in heels....at least for that.
Anyway - 20 mins on the treadmill. 10 of which was CONSECUTIVE jogging at 4.0mph @ 2% incline. Longest time ever consistently jogging. Question...what should I aim for on the treadmill? Speed or time? Not a runner, lol, but must admit it's a good work out. I can jog at 4.5mph but not for a very long sustained time (think like 3-5 mins) Should I try to work my way up to something like a 5k on 4.0mph and then slowly increase speed? Or work on speed now and slowly increase time? Thoughts?
Then met with the trainer who worked me pretty good. Good news is that he had me do this combination lunge things which I HATE...it's been quite some time since I've done them, actually. I was pretty darned impressed with how much stronger I've become and how much I've improved with them. Nice!
My heart rate was up BIG time during the training session this time, so it was a combo cardio/weight day, plus the 20 mins of cardio on the treadmill. Nice!

Woohoo! Pam is a runner!! I never run for speed or time - I always run for mileage. I think it's a personal preference. Once I get the mileage I go for time. That is in fact how I injured myself. Doing to much to fast... never ever increase your mileage more than 10% while increasing your speed. So, I don't know if it helped but I wanted to say that I am happy there is another runner in the world!
I am going to the gym to conquer the elliptical. 20 minutes no resistance allowed... damn injury.

Ok, let's get one thing straight. I am SOOOOO not a runner! I hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Oh, have I mentioned, I HATE it? LMAO However, I need to be able to jog at least two miles by next spring, preferably further than that. And it's something I am doing to warm up for my weight training work outs, so I get at least a little bit of cardio in.
Soooooo...on the treadmill I am a few days a week. I'll talk to my trainer about what I'm doing now and see what he thinks...but your advice sounds pretty good. I want to at least get up to the two miles of straight jogging I guess before I work on time. I jog REALLY slow right now...and that's fine with me for the time being.....
Thanks honey! You run, I'll spin, and the world will begin to get straight on it's axis again, lol

The tough mudder that I had mentioned....the course is 7 miles...but there's obstacles....but there's a 2 mile jog portion of it. Which granted...you don't absolutely NEED to run/jog but I'd like too....we'll see. Even if I can do it by next spring, I'm not sure I can jog 2 miles AND complete a 7 mile obstacle course....

Does anyone have any experience with Zumba?
The local rec center is offering a 10 week class for 100.00 and I was thinking about checking it out.
But... I am WAY uncoordinated. can't even do a box step uncoordinated.
Think I can hack it?

Cherish,
ZUMBA ROCKS!!!! It's SO much fun and a great way to burn calories and work on cardio, abs and flexibility. I never smile so much during a workout and it's sexy to boot!
Do not get hung up on the uncoordinated part - everyone feels uncoordinated for at least the first 5 - 10 times you do it. The key is to just keep moving, do what you can, and keep your heart rate up and your smile on your face ;-).
Enjoy it!
