Hi everyone I haven't been on in a while, but I need some suggestions.  I was at the Dr's about 3 months ago and they said my iron levels were a little low so I have been taking some extra vitamins everyday.  Whenever I am getting my period and have it..I am so tired and I ache everywhere.  I have been getting clammy hands, but mainly want to sleep.  Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this or anyone they know and if this is something more serious than my physician is saying ( not my gastric DR)...please help

I would definitely call your gastric doctor and ask them about supplements. I have had no problems with iron so I'm not offering any constructive advice other than that, but many on here are on iron supplements so they may be able to help.

I also wanted to post because your new avitar is AMAZING! You look fabulous!!

Hey there! Definately sounds like an iron issue. Are you taking an iron supplement? If not, start. I have been battling anemia since delivering and wow it is kickng my butt big time. It also wouldn't hurt to get into the PCP and have your labs drawn. Get a copy of them and have them sent to your surgeon - can't hurt.

Good luck

OH and I can't imagine why you are tired... the kids maybe?! lol

Hey Court... definitely sounds like low iron and just lots on your plate.  I agree with the others who have said to get your labs done again and sent to your surgeon.  You may need an iron infusion.

Hang in there and when you're up to it, you need to come hang out.  You know I'm up your way a lot now with Bron.

Hi Courtney,
Long time since we seen each other. I have something called Non-iron deficient anemia and it's kicking my ass. I am tired all the time especially during my periods and my whole body hurts and now my RA is flaring up and because I am so tired and hurt all the time not to mention lack of energy I have not been working  out 6-7 days a week like I use to. Lately all I can do is go for a brisk walk. That will have to do for now until this all gets resolved. I am sending you some cyberhugs oh BTW I see my PCP this Friday should find out more what I can do to get my iron up. The problem is we do not cook or eat meat in the household and then I see my rhumetologist next Monday so I should have some answers to what is going on with my iron levels. I agree follow up with your RNY doctor to see what he has to say.

Liz,
Thank you for the suggestion but I am allergic to shellfish and was told to stay away from fish in general. Shannon emailed me a list of iron rich foods. I have been eating nuts, leafy veggies and legumes. Just not enough I guess:( Feeling sorry for myself that's all. I think you'll forgive me. LOL

I'd have your labs faxed to your Gastric doctor...extra vitamins probably won't cut it...actual iron supplements might be needed, or if push comes to shove, an iron infusion to get you up to par.

In the meantime, research iron rich foods...red meat a few times a week (lean red meat), dark greens etc.  There is some research that shows that searing well in a cast iron pan helps..I'm not sure if that's an old wives tale or not, but what they heck!

Hang in there and feel better!
