9 month check up today
I had my 9 month check up today. I'm 10.5 months out, doc had to cancel my appointment last month due to a speaking engagment he was asked to do at the last minute.
I'm doing well. He was very happy with my weight loss. I have 6 pounds to go to hit the goal he set for me prior to surgery
I have to go for an upper GI on Monday. He is a bit concerned about some of the problems I'm still having with food. Gene ratted me out about last Saturday. We went out to breakfast with some friends, I did not over eat, chewed everything to liquid consistency, ended up sick and throwing up for the rest of the day. Then for a couple days after I usually stick to all liquids as my pouch does not like anything else and also protests the liquids but is accepting of them.
I was not going to tell doc about this - Gene perked right up when I didn't mention it and told doc all about it. Guess it is something doc needs to know. So I am scheduled for an upper GI on Monday morning. They also drew blood in the doctors office to check all my levels to see if I'm good now that I'm on regular B-12 shots and Iron. We did discuss with him that our PCP is not on board with B-12 shots monthly but is on board to have them given quaterly. We asked doc if our PCP's take that keeping the range @400 instead of higher is a good range. He said the reason many docs put their patients on overload is because as patients get further out they stop the B-12, this way with the overload for the non-complient patients keeps them from getting tired and loosing all the B12. He said at this point I'm so complient to all the rules and since Gene has been through the surgery 4.5 yrs ago and is also complient he feels that our PCP's recommendations are good for me.
All in all it was a good visit.
BEST of ALL....Gene and I fit together on one chair in the doctors office - HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!! They have the oversized chairs in the office

Ida,
Congratulations on fitting into the same chair as Gene! You are so lucky to have a life partner that has gone thru what you are going thru now and can learn from his mistakes and struggles. Your 9 month check up sounds like it went well. I have been having a lot of iron problems lately to the point that I have non-iron deficent anemia I am good at making time for the family but just not good on making appointments for myself. I need to call the office and take care of this ASAP anyway enough about me. Congratulations on the great check up and you continue to be such a positive role models to newbies and oldies alike.

Shilpa,
Thank you! I am fortunate that I have Gene to guide me and support me. I have been truely blessed with not only having him in my life but also you all - my WLS family.
Take care of that iron. I've been enemic throughout my life. I know it is not fun. I've even depleted my stored Iron to be where you are now. I'm surprised you are functioning normally. I was so tired I could barely do anything during that time. I didn't have to go through the iron infusions, I responded well to high dose Iron suppliments 3 times a day at the beginning. The normal dosage was 1 a day. My iron depleted by my 6 month check up. Knowing what I've been through most of my life I make sure I am dilligent in taking my iron everyday. The last time I saw my PCP my Iron was up but my stored iron was still low. Hopefully with these blood tests today, my stored iron will be in a more normal range. When my kids were young and I was married to my ex - everyone came before me. Make that appointment and take care of yourself!!!!!

Thanks Ida. You always make me feel better just by listening. I need a physical done anyway for work so I made the appointment for next week. I take Iron 60mg with vitamin C but that is not enough and I am tired all the time and I literally feel so drained that I have cut my excercising to 4-5 days a week and even that takes a lot out of me.
