Gassy...

This is sort of embarrassing but I figured somebody else here may have some advice. I've been really gassy and I'm not sure what more I can do besides pop a beano or a simethicone tablet. I'm trying to see if certain foods trigger it but it seems to mostly everything. I can control it when I'm sitting but it's really hard when I'm dancing especially ballet and it's getting to the point that I'm afraid to eat before dance even though I need the fuel. Even the protein shakes make me fart. What can I do to reduce this cloud of stink I leave behind whenever I do a plié? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Seems likely that you're dealing with a food intolerance or a reaction to too many artificial sweeteners in your food.  As a food intolerance, the most likely culprit is going to be milk... lactose intolerance has as a main symptom GAS and intestinal upset.  Try cutting out milk products for a few days and see if you see a significant change, if so, you'll know you've identified the problem.  You can then switch to soy, rice, hemp, or almond milk to make your protein shakes.

As you're a little ways out from surgery, you may also be falling into the artificial sweeteners trap - consuming too many products containing sugar alcohols, in particular (maltitol, erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, etc. - any of the sweeteners ending in -ol).  Too much sugar alcohol produces a ton of gas!

Either of those sound likely to you?

There's also an oral medication you can take, starts with a D and I'm blanking on the name, which helps with the gas side effects.  I'm sure someone will chime in...

Karen,

It's called Devrom. . .  ;)

Try Devrom; google and and you can order it and it does work, but follow the directions, you may still have the gas, but it won't be quite as fragrant. . .
