11 days out!

Hello PA forum -

Let me start by thanking you all for your support and so much helpful information.  I can't believe it's been 11 days.  Other than tiredness I can barely believe I had surgery.

Everything went very smooth - beyond excellent surgeon and very good care at the hospital (TJUH).  I have more protein than I can comprehend and finding my tastes have really not changed much - other than inability to tolerate too many sweet tasting drinks.  I"m craving savory and the choices (on liquids) are few and far between.  I tired unjury chicken soup but @ 780mgs of sodium it makes me too thirsty. Optifast has too many carbs and not enough protein so I've made my own fresh chicken broth and use genisoy protein powder to give it a nice creamy texture.

What are your thoughts on soy protein (1 carb, 0 sugar, 20 pro)? Not as good as whey isolate (I use that too)?  Any recs for some good savory soups for the liquid stage?

Anyway I'm so thrilled to have done this and my biggest challenge thus far is eating (drinking) slowly. I think I'm doing good b/c no nausea but it's difficult. I start purees on Tuesday which I imagine will be even harder.

Thanks guys!

Glad that you are feeling well! I remember at 5 days out I was driving. I HATED the liquid diet phase. I definitely had buyers remorse then, but now I am glad that I got through that time.

I don't have any thoughts on soy protein. Why not try the V8 soups? They seem to be a bit thicker and have a good variety of flavors. Don't know the nutritional stats, but you can look the next time you are in the store.

Take your time, you are still healing and believe me your body WILL let you know when you eat or drink too quickly. It does not feel good.

Hope you continue a great recovery and keep successing!!

Beth

Woohoo for 11 days!

Pureed WILL be harder.  Just remember to eat by the clock, eat by measurement, and the denser the food (pureed vs liquid) you will most likely eat significantly less than you could on liquids.  And that's ok.  Better than being sick!

Soups - you can take beef broth or chicken broth base soups, strain em, and eat the broth (and/or add unflavored protein powder to it)  Other than that...the liquid stage pretty much does suck, lol, but you'll get through it!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

Great advise. I do fear purees in a strange way b/c of the added temptations. I'm fine with shakes but definitely need to eat slower with the soups.

Congrats on your recent surgery!  Hang in there- this bit is rough, but soon you will barely remember the liquid phase. :-)  I did alot of pureed chili and pureed no fat cream of chicken soup with added protein powder when I was on pureed diet.  I found I craved spice, so I made a concoction of fat free refried beans, ricotta cheese with taco seasoning and sometimes taco meat and pureed that.  I liked it better without the meat but it had some spice to it and really helped me through.

Good luck!

YUM !!! Did you make your own cream of chicken soup? I have some good recipes in my many WLS books. I was never much of a cook but now that I actually care what I'm eating it's a different story.
