Deptrivation Ended on July 15, 2009
I am in Florida tonight, and just returned from "retracing my steps" of last spring at the Coastland Mall in Naples.
On that shopping trip, last June, I cried in the fitting room because nothing fit, and there was no plus size store in the mall. My husband wanted me to get something to wear for a "nice" evening out.
This year, I will celebrate my one year surgiversary tomorrow....and I walked through that mall just because I knew that I could buy clothes at ANY store in their lineup.
It's been a year, and I have lost 101 pounds.
I started in size 22-24 and 2X. I now wear size 6-8 and small/medium.
A year ago, I was desperate, nervous, and incredibly sad. My insurance journey had been very difficult (I still think they wanted me to just give up). Dr. Pupkova offered me hope that things could change for the better - but I never could have imagined how much.
I am so grateful for all of the positive changes in my life this past year. I am grateful for all of you here - those I have met in person and become friends with, and those who are online friends - because this is NOT a solo flight. I have learned so much as we share joys and struggles. Thank you for all you contribute here, and for making this such a terrific "community" that I visit every single day, whether I post or not.
I also feel very grateful for the Barix support group - there has never been a time when I have come away from a meeting without learning something that truly has contributed to my journey. Whether you are a leader or a participant doesn't matter. I have appreciated those who have shared the difficult parts - it helps the rest of us understand that they will come. Those of you who are a step or two ahead of me in the journey have been tremendous role models, even as you may have stalled or struggled or fallen off the wagon. And it is such fun to walk in the door and see the changes in people each and every month! (Y'all look GOOD!)
And the journey continues. We'll solve the problems together when the come up. We'll share tidbits from the lives of people that we would never have had the pleasure of meeting, if not for this journey. And isn't that a great "silver lining" as the old saying says?
To those who may be reading this who are just beginning, or new on the loser's bench, let me say this.
There is hope. Your life can change for the good more than you ever dreamed.
Get involved with a good support group and go to it as often as possible.
Be BOLD in your commitment to success.
Understand that every time you take your vitamins, or exercise, or log your protein, you are successing.
It's a marathon.
It's for life.
It tests our patience.
It's not easy.
But you CAN retool your relationship with food, and the role you allow it to play in your life.

Wow Lynn, what an incredible post, you've said it so well and more importantly you've worked the tool that Dr. P gave you, as well as been a joy to watch . . . there's plenty more living to be done and now you can do it with energy and I'm sure a new found joy!
Congrats on the first of many years of successing!
Hugs, Laureen
My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Nic, I appreciate your kind words. I'm surprised in a way that we haven't crossed paths yet, but I think we will. Either I'll get brave and go on one of the "excursions" or the calendar will lead me to a Lancaster support group one evening.
And who knows, maybe by my 2nd anniversary, I'll be ready for zipliining...or trapeze school...or pole dancing...or whatever you guys cook up!

I'm on if you'd like to get a coffee one day. My schedule varies a lot so it is hard to say exactly what works, but with advance planning I can do almost anything. Message me a couple of dates or times and we can see what we can put together to meet at Panera or somewhere.
I go to the first Sat support at Barix if you ever want to jump in the car and go. (going in August, missing September.) The cooking class always looks like fun but has not worked for my calendar yet....but I will watch for the time that it does!
