Memories from childhood.....
Hi All - this morning I was reminded of a crappy memory from my childhood....
A co-worker and I were discussing the location of Barix in Langhorne and she said "isn't that close to Sesame Place?" It is...you can see the Sesame Place water tower from the front doors of Barix.
Anyhow, this reminded me of the time when I was 11 or 12 and my parents took my sister and I to this place. I was overweight (of course), plus I had started to "blossom" and I was in the middle of the growth spurt that was to get me to my height today of 5'5". I guess I looked more like an adult that a kid.
There was something that I went to play on and the worker came up to me and said "this is for kids only". I remember being horrified, turning 50 shades of red and blurting out - "but I'm only 12 ! " That really ruined my fun day out.
I guess these memories can burrow under the surface of ones subconscious, but they never really go away...
ughhh....I need to bury it again.

You don't need to bury it again. You need to address it, realize the issues that happened...and realize how far you have come from that day.
I got asked once when I was 15 taking my 5 year old brother out for a walk to the corner store "Can I give your son a lollipop?" Hmmmm. I was overweight and "matured" for my age....but to look old enough to be the mother of a 5 year old? C'mon now.
But people are morons and judge totally by first appearances and what not.
Try not to get hung up on ignorant people's comments, now, past, or future.

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.

LISA, i ONCE GOT ASKED WHEN i WAS IN MY EARLIER 30'S IF i WAS THE GRANDMOTHER OF MY NEICES AND NEPHEWS while we were playing mini. golf. , and another time I was at my friends delivery, we were the same age, and the doc told me congrats grandmom! I was really bummed out, not so much because I have an age issue, but I knew it was my weight That caused the older age assumtions. { sorry my caps lock was on when I started writing this note.) I hope you can feel better about yourself now and how far you have come. I've had a few people act truly stunned when I tell them I'm 50 yrs. old now, and trust me I now have wrinkles since I've lost the weight.

Pam is right. Burying our past pains and thoughts is what caused me to overeat in the first place. Bringing them out in the open and learning to work through the pain, memories, and other issues is freeing. My suggestion would be to seek psychotherapy, and really work toward healing mind, body and soul altogether.
Hugs,
Trish

Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his own way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. For remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too.

Lisa I am with you there is always going to be something coming out of left field that will be a sensative issue for us. As a child or adult. I just had a state trooper who was taking the accident report last friday when I was rear-ended in jersey ask me if Heather was my grandaughter and when I said to him try daughter he looked at me and I am guessing he won't make that mistake with anyone else again. So I understand where you're coming from. I am sorry it ruined your day out and left a lasting effect but you're still standing and thats a good thing.
