A Gross Question

I have a lap band.  I was told lap band patients do not dump.  I think I did this weekend.   If I usually throw up its because I've put too much in my pouch.  Well this weekend I was eating jelly beans and boy did I throw up.  The weird thing is.....it was all foamy and I threw up alot until I got it all out.  Is that what happens when you eat sugar?

Yep!! And we get really bad stomach cramps, sweats, dizzy and just generally crappy feeling!

Hope that you are feeling better!

Liz

PS - jelly beans are also very sticky they may not have passed through the band easily thats why they got "rejected"

Hi Diane,

Sounds to me like the jelly bean must have been stuck because we, as band patients, do not dump. Our band makes our pouch and nothing is cut or bypassed during our surgery.  I have witnessed someone dumping a few times and it was not fun.  I hope you are feeling better.  You are doing fabulous by the way!

To a degree, yes, but what you experienced was not true dumping.  Sounds more like a foamy reaction because it was stuck and couldn't get back up.  That's what happens to me when I eat stuff to fast or what not - it's attack of the foamies.  For whatever reason (and this is not true of all RNY patients) I cannot vomit after surgery.  I dry heave and bring up mucous and foamy crap - but that is all that comes out.

I think Beth is right - they were stuck and your stomach was uncomfortable but you couldn't bring it up.  Not a fun feeling either way.

Feel better - and stay away from the jelly beans!

Thanks for the answers ladies.  I will stay away from jellybeans in the future.  I wanted chocolate and I refused to have it and i figured the jellybeans were less calories and would curb that craving.  I do believe in allowing myself a treat once in awhile.  If I deprive myself totally I get upset and I might start eating crap just because I said no to it for too long.

Once in awhile I will grab a pretzel or one chip....just to taste it lol.  I'm a goober LOL
