On my pre-op liquid diet

You can do this - the first few days are the hardest but then it does get easier - I had to do it, too - sf popsicles were my saving grace, as well as good broth from regular soup that was strained (hubby ate the noodles and veggies). And you can have as much as you want so go for it - sf jello was also a staple - of course AFTER surgery you won't want to touch that stuff but for now have as much as you want.

Trust me, it will be worth it - your surgery should go much easier - you'll probably lose between 10-20 lbs, depending on how heavy you are right now - I lost 17 lbs on mine and that was after losing 33 lbs the previous 3 months because of the fitness and nutrition routine - so it does pay off. And my surgeon was thrilled with how small my liver was so he could work around everything in there while doing my surgery.

Try not to think of what you can't have right now - I know its hard - just think of how much better you're going to feel later!

I didn't have to do a liquid diet pre op, but i feel for you!  Hang in there, it will soon be over and you will be on the losing side of life!

I had a family wedding the weekend before my surgery (a Monday)... I told my surgeon, and he said I could have a piece of wedding cake.  Now, I had open surgery, so I don't know if the lap procedure needs the pre-op liquid diet to be super-strict... but ... I guess what I'm saying is *talk to your doc*.  I know many will argue it, & I KNOW the pre-op liquid diet definitely does have physical reasoning behind it, but I swear, so much of the reasoning behind it is mental too-- to prepare you for the post-op diet which NEEDS to be super-strict.

I was one grumpy biotch during that time period... but it was also nice to be reassured I wouldn't DIE if I had a piece of cake on the Saturday before the surgery.  ;o)

I feel for you.  Have to start my 5 day fast tomorrow.  I have to drink 6 packs of no sugar added carnation instant breakfast and additional 32 oz of water or sf drinks.
