Sleep apnea, CPAP, and weight loss surgery = results?

I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea pre-op and was on CPAP for a while prior to surgery.  I know when I first started using the CPAP I felt AMAZING.  I never knew how much good sleep I was missing!

After losing about 80lbs. I stopped using the CPAP.   Now that I've lost 150 I really need to get tested officially and get rid of the machine but just have not got around to it yet.

So pre-ops don't be afraid of getting the study or cpap.  It will make you feel a heck of a lot better and will help your pulmonary functions prior to surgery.

Cheers!
Tom

I couldn't agree more with the last post -- I was so glad I had a sleep study done three years ago as I began the process of investigating weight loss surgery.  I had no idea how bad my sleep was -- severe obstructive sleep apnea.  Not only are you robbed of rest, it's a very dangerous condition.  Anyway, with CPAP I slept like a baby.  Now, I was so thankful for CPAP I have been reluctant to give it up -- I wasn't willing to give up the restful sleep.  But, after some experimentation (and reports from my wife who was a witness to my previous night-time gasping for air) -- I've come to recognize I don't need CPAP anymore.  This is a wonderful blessing -- weight loss surgery.  Its been so kind to me.

Oh my gosh -- I just realized Tom has realized his weight loss goal!  Tom, I am not sure how long you've been there -- but congrats!
