Did you have to do liquid diet before surgery?
Wow, I am so glad I finally got the nerve to pipe up and post here! I can tell that this is the place to go to feel supported and cared about.
Thanks to you all for taking the time to respond- can't tell you how much it means.
It's interesting that different doctors have such different rules but I have to say I'm glad mine doesn't require the "cleaning out" the night before!
I think I'm going to do what Pam did and do protein shake am and lunch (maybe some broth in between!) and perhaps some chicken and salad in the evening, for the next 2 weeks.

<--- 2 weeks of hell...i mean liquid diet before surgery to help "shrink the liver".
I dont know how i did it. One of the 1st things I asked him after surgery was "How was my liver?" and the F-er had the audacity to say "well- it was a little large, but we managed." I almost ate his face.
I think every surgeon is different. Just make sure you keep doing your research, find a surgeon you are comfortable with and one you trust to re-route your insides.

I didn't have to do a liquid diet pre-op...just a day of clears before surgery, and that was bad enough. I feel for those of you who have/had to do it. I knew liver size could be a problem during a laparoscopic procedure, so I asked before hand if there was anything I could do to shrink it so that the doc wouldn't have to end up opening me an hour into the operation. Basically, they told me "if you're going to have a last feast, do it a week before surgery." "The week of surgery, no fried or fatty foods, and it should be fine." And it was.
I had the same surgeon group and no, they do not do the liquid diet or anything special before your surgery. Now, had you gone to Hershey, I do believe they require it. From all the posts I have read on here over the past year, it seems our group is the only one who does not have hard and fast rules prior to surgery. I can tell you, just in case you are apprehensive, you picked a good group. This journey is amazing and each time you go for a visit, you become amazed all over again.
Good luck to you!
