UPMC Magees' pre op question
Hi all!! I am new to the forum and have just a few questions:
I am having my last weigh in on Saturday (3/7/09) and am moving onto Lapband surgery (hopefully) within the month. Dr Courcolas is my surgeon.
So far, no one has mentioned any sort of 'pre-op' diet to me, but I see lots of mentions about it on this site.
Can anyone tell me more about it?
Thanks!!
Amanda

As you may see on the boards, there are a huge varying of differences in the pre-op diet. That is more specific to each surgeon. So you will have to contact your surgeions office for specific details.
For instance, I had to do a liquid diet for 10 days. No jello, no sugar. Only water, Carnation Instant breakfast (sugar free).
I know people who are allowed a certain amount of jello or certain fruits during that time. So just check with your surgeions office. They will give you all the info you need.

Hi, I had Dr Courcoulas.
There was confusion with the pre-op diet. I was told to be on soft liquids the 2 days before and then liquid the day off.... Then when I got diarehea (sp) I called in to find out if I could take something for it. She asked why I had it... I said because I was on all liquid and the nurse told me to start eating. She didnt know who I had talked to but they wanted me to eat normally till 8PM the night before surgery and then to go onto clear liquids to bed time and then nothing by mouth after midnight. Just make sure you find out exactly what is to be done. The nurse told me that Dr C never makes anyone do the pre-op liquid diet before surgery.

PS.. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me via board or private messages. Also you might want to read my blog from the beginning. I tried to post everything I went through from month to month.
