My step-son started it. Now I have the sore throat, sinus, cough a lung out thing going on. Yeah Me. First thing I said this morning is I am calling a doctor I can't wait to see if I can beat it myself. I needed antibiotics. I have to make sure I am well by the 20th, or no surgery for me. AAAHHH. I waited all this time for my date if I can help it I don't want to be sick come the big day. So went to the doc today and he gave me the meds I need to get well, with lots of rest and lots of fluids.

Oh sweetie (((HUGS))) I hope you are feeling better soon. I know you got your date and it really is an exiciting and scary time at the same time but you are on top of things by going to doctor's and following his orders. I hope you are on your way to feeling better and I will move over to make room on the loser's bench. Feel better and take care:)

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

My un-expert advice is rest, rest, rest, lots of fluids, and airborne or EmergenC, and more fluids.  Also, wash hands a lot, and wipe everything down in the house with disinfectant wipes.

Hang in there...you should be fine by the 20th.

Hugs,
Trish

Take the meds...you can try mucinex as well to get things moving and increase the fluids.

I know how devestating it can be if your surgery does not go on the date as planned (mine was cancelled two weeks before the initial date)  But if you are at all left over sick and they need to cancel please please PLEASE understand how important that is.  If you have any "junk" in your lungs and have surgery there is a very very VERY real possibility of you getting pneumonia and not being able to heal properly causing a lot of problems in your recovery.

Feel better all the same, I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!

Well I hope you feel better soon and can kick this thing before your date. Good thing you are getting to the docs to try and get rid of it before surgery. You have some time to get it out of your system.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Bummer!!!  BUT, the healthier you are prior to surgery the better so focus on getting healthy.

Good plan getting to the Dr - I agree with Pam - mucinex is a great thing! One of my (other) nurse friends once told me to take 2 for the first dose then back to 1 - they help you to hack up the nasty stuff so you can cough it out - definately don't want to have any junk in your lungs post-op - They will make you cough anyway and well it hurts without having a cold!!

Hope you are already feeling better!!

Liz

PS - LOTS of fluids - have you tried Vicks? Pam swears by putting it on your chest, putting on a hoodie, also put it on your feet, then put on socks and BED!

Oh - OJ and Yogurt too!! Yogurt if you are on an antibiotic - don't wanna get a yeast infection from them! I tend to so I eat yogurt with active cultures with my antibiotics

Thanks for all the good advice and well wishes. The doc gave me a Z Pack, antibiotic, and Mucinex D, I have taken both before and you all are right the Mucinex rocks. I am already starting to feel a little better. I have been drinking lots of juice and taking naps ALOT.  Yeah Liz I already have the yogurt on hand, if it isn't the yeast infection sometimes I get diarrhea from antibiotics. I am hoping that I can avoid getting either this time. Hope all of you are having a good one, and that you all miss out on the "flu" going around.

Watch using the antibiotic wipes, the reason we get sicker and more often these days is the overuse of those crazy antibiotic things. I work in a lab and I can tell you that NOT being exposed to things leaves us MORE prone to get sick. Our bodies aren't used to the exposure and so WHAM we get whatever comes down the pike. Think about it, when we were kids our parents didn't wipe down everything, they told us to go wash our hands and our faces. If we ate something dirty, our mom's would say "You eat a pound of dirt in your lifetime so might as well do it all at once and get it over with". Were we sick everytime we turned around? NO!! We lived with the dirt in the air from the mills (Beaver and Allegheny Counties) and we weren't sick all the time (could be why I had so many sinus infections tho' but nothing like pneumonia). Just do the normal, don't take antibiotics for EVERYTHING, if it is a cold or virus it isn't going to help anyways and drink LOTS of fluids and get LOTS of sleep..................restful, healing sleep (no TV, no phone, no 'puter)

Ciao 4 now,
