It's been two weeks since surgery.  I'm trying to get use to drinking my protein, but for som reason, I can keep it down.  Can someone help.  And also give me some recipes from a patient who got the RNY.

At 2 weeks out I wasn't as worried about protein as just getting in enough fluids.  My diet at that point consisted mostly of sugar-free jello and some soups.  Also, I tried about 10 different protein shakes before I found some I could tolerate.  You may just have to experiment, but don't pu**** so soon after surgery if it makes you nauseous.

just do the best you can. It is slow going. I was drinking SF carnation breakfast with unflavored protein powder and milk. That is the only protein i could drink. Ate alot of yogurt and cottage cheese mashed up. It will be ok, just make sure you get your fluids the protein will come

Protein will come in time.  You do have to keep trying each day - but if you don't make your goals every day this early out it's ok.

The SF carnation instant breakfast is labeled as "No sugar added" carnation instant breakfast.  It will say (on the nutritional label) that it has x amount of sugar gms but those are natural sugar gms from the milk and what not - so it' allowed.

I ate (and still eat a lot of) yogurts and dairy products.  I don't know what food stage you are in....when you are on pureed you can generally have ricotta cheese....I would take (and still do) about 1/4 or a 1/2 a cup depending on how much you are eating, add a packet or two of splenda and sprinkle some cinnamon into it - it is soooo yummy.

Also...with the soups....you can take any soup you like (preferably a lower fat one and one with some sort of protein like chicken)  Strain out the noodles....whiz it up in the blender and strain it so it doesn't have any chunks in it and eat it that way.

If you can find "greek yogurt" (normally sold under the brand names of fage, chobani, or oikyos) they are really high in protein - but plain they taste like sour cream.  Add some sf jam and splenda or a small amount of sf jello crystals....anything like that...and it's quite yummy.  Dannon Lite and Fit I believe is made with splenda...I ate a lot of that early out too.

Hang in there - it gets better and easier!
