Please help for revision advice for a doc who IS taking new patients. I'm pretty darn desperate

I haven't been here in a long time. Because I'm depressed. My surgery in June of 2004 didn't result in much. I stopped losing weight in December 2004 and that hasn't changed at all. I got depressed and dropped out of the community. I had repeated follow ups with the nutritionist who said I wasn't eating enough. So I ate more, but I didn't gorge. Didn't really fell all that full, but whatever. It was frustrating. Depression set in. Finally, there was a new guy on the surgeon's service who said in August 2005 that things should be working better. So, a barium swallow showed that the hole is WAAAAAY too big. Like they had to lie me down just to get a picture--the liquid just poured through me and they couldn't even get a picture. That day of the barium swallow the original surgeon said that he would install a ring at the juncture to keep the stoma an acceptable size. But when I called to get a date, I was unceremoniously told that the surgeon wouldn't do it because he thought I had been stuffing myself wit food. But I think that it failed immediately, as I have had zero weight loss for a year. Have I always been perfect: no. But I also wasn't overstuffing. (read profile for information). The profile stops in December because I felt like such a loser (and not in a good way). What do you think I should do? I'm so depressed. The surgery didn't work, the original doctor doesn't want me anymore.

Where in PA are you.??  My surgery was originally done in MD.. In Rockville by Dr. Barry Greene, who is fantastic, and follows through with his patients for years!!  If you are close to the MD line, you may want to look him up,  but not knowing what city you are nearest too.. not sure.  There are lots of people on this board from different areas of PA, who I am sure can recommend a Surgeon for you.. DON'T GIVE UP!!!!  There are some darn good Dr's out there!!!    Good luck and keep in touch on the board.  We are here for all sorts of support and advice!!!

Check with Dr. Vitaly Sawyna. I'm not sure if he does revisions, but he definitely takes new patients.  He is doing my RNY on 2/23.   His phone # is 610-437-3585.  He is located on Liberty Street in Allentown.  If he does not do revisions, call Lehigh Valley Hospital.  They have a pretty big bariatric program.

George aka spankaroo might be able to give you info on the dr's there as he had his surgery there.  I'll send a message to him to be sure he looks at this post for you.

Sorry you are having such a hard time.  I wish you great luck getting this taken care of.  Don't give up and stay with us here on the PA boards. We'll help you get through whatever we can.

I am sorry to hear that your surgery didn't give the results planned because your stoma is too big. I agree with Nicole and Lisa. Call Dr Brader at Lancaster General Hospital, or the Bariatric teams at either LEhigh Valley Hospital (the one on Cedar Crest Blvd) or even Easton Hospital.

Best of luck with the revision and please keep posting - we are all here to support you!

Dr. Boorse in Allentown did not perform my intial surgery, but he repaired a hernia and a recurring twisted bowel for me this summer. I have no idea if he does revisions, but he did a wonderful job on me. He works right by the Lehigh Valley Hospital.

My guess is any surgeon will make you attend a support groups and follow the pouch rules before they would consider revision. Probably do an endoscopy first to see if the stoma is really enlarged. There is also that procedure called STOMAPHYX.

I don't mind going to a support group. That's fine.

The Stomaphyx doesn't seem to work, and no insurance will pay for it.
