Stealing idea from the Roux-en-Y Forum because I thought it was great!.... Who are you...

I saw this post on the RNY board and I thought it was such a cool idea, so here goes.

So, I've been on the PA board for about a month and outside of food, cooking, exercise, I don't really know who you are with the exception of a small few.  I want to get to know you better!  Does anybody have special talents?  Hobbies?  Where do you work, what do you do?

Tell me something interesting about you.

Me.. I am 36 years old and am currently married (though not for much longer) and have a 10 year old daughter.  I live in Bethlehem, PA which is right near Allentown.  Think Musikfest..

I work for Aetna Insurance company as an implementation consultant. That means I input the benefits into our systems and interpret state legislation for compliance.  (don't hold it against me-I might be able to help you interpret some of that insurance jargon.  MIGHT)  I've been with the company for 10 years and work from home. YAY!!!

I love being around people and laughing and having a good time.  I am a pretty social person and sometimes talk way too much for other people's comfort.  I am working on backing off a bit on the sarcasm, too, because not everyone appreciates it and/or understands it.  Once you get to know me and become my friend, I will be loyal to the end.  Just don't use me and abuse me because then you'll **** me off and I won't have anything to do with you after that.

Karaoke is my FAVORITE past time and I have been told that I have a really good voice.  I know I can carry a tune, and well, yes, I'd have to agree that it's pretty good.  Not American Idol good, but karaoke or choir good.  I've also been told by friends that they are going to have to come up with a 12 step program for me to break the addiction, but you have to want to quit for it to work, right?! LOL!!  It's not a bad past time to have.  I actually sang at karaoke until I was at the beginning of my 9th month of pregnancy and now my daughter sings all the time too.

I am a conservative Jew and attend synagogue with my daughter on a regular basis.  There is a part of the service (the Haftorah for those familiar) that requires singing/chanting and I am able to participate in this honor and do so on a regular basis.  It is another way for me to showcase my singing voice and also to utilize the fact that I can read Hebrew well.  Don't ask me to translate it, though, 'cause you don't learn that in Hebrew School unless you go to all day school like my daughter does.  I'm sure she can translate more than I can at this point and she's only been going to the school for 1 1/2 years.  But, that's a good thing!

I have one sister, a father and a wonderful step mother.  My mother passed away in 2005 at the too young age of 67.  She struggled with a lot of medical issues throughout her life and is finally out of pain.  I miss her a lot and wish she was here to see all the things my daughter and I have accomplished in life, including this journey to the loser's bench.

I've probably rambled long enough..like I said I tend to talk too much sometimes. Anything else you want to know, just ask.

I thought it would be nice for us to get to know each other or at least for me to get to know you guys on a more personal level.  I'm sure some of you already know stuff about each other, but being the new girl, I thought I'd be nosy!

Look forward to hearing what everyone has to say.

Lisa,
My name is Shilpa and I live in Levittown, PA think Sesame Street, Oxford Valley Mall. Barix Clinic is literally right across the street from me. I can walk there. I had my RNY on 1/29/08 so my Surgiversary is on Thursday. Yeah me as I have lost 98 pounds and am two more pounds away from goal. If I reach the goal I reach it if I never lose another pound I am happy with what I have accomplished. I used to work for Johnson & Johnson company but they laid me off last year (Christmas Eve) if you believe it. BUT God is great and I found another job without missing a paycheck with guess WHO?? Nutrisystem!! My new job motivates me to look good since I work for a weight loss company. I love my new Job as a Quality Assurance Analyst.

I love to read in my spare time when I have spare time and since I began this journey I love working out everyday and at times feel out of sorts if I don't work out. I know I am SICK in the head. LOL... I have two children a boy who is 7 who BTW is severely autistic and does not talk. But he is the love of my life and I truly believe he is in my life for a reason and he makes me want to be a better person. I have a 5 year old daughter that is going on 25. LOL..but I love her to pieces. Like you I also love to talk a lot and have one sister who I am so close to that since I have lost so much weight people say that we look like twins and its true we are so close that you don't know where I end and she begins. She is my best friend. I am Hindu by religion and also go to the temple every Sunday and my daugther does Sunday school at the temple and she is very good at translating the Hindu religion that I am.  It's a pleasure meeting you and this trend is a good idea. Talk to you soon and Take Care:)

-Shilpa

People comment on my over 100 pound weight loss and attribute it to my WILLpower, but it is my WANTpower: I WANT to be thin and healthy more than anything else!

Hey Lisa!
I'm Dee. I am going to be 40 this April.  I make a living as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at a hospital full time in Sellersville, PA as well as one day a week at a cardiologist office in Easton, PA.  Then one Sat. a month I work about 4 hours as a medical assisstant  in a dr's office in Harleysville.  When I am not working (which isn't that often  ) I like to ride my motorcycle or jetski.  Yes, summer is my favorite season of the year, if you couldn't guess!  I have a 13 yr old pitbull at home with alzheimer's (fun, fun---but I would not trade her for the world!)  Not married, no kids--just have 4 nieces to spoil and then give them back to my brother!!!!!!!  I am close to my family-i.e.  I talk to my parents every day....and I am so glad that I have been given a new lease on life since my RNY 11/3/08.  Thank you Dr. Pupkova!!  I am also so grateful for making new friends on this board and at the support groups that I have attended....thank you everyone!

I live out in the "valley" One stop sign, and the nearest town doesn't have any redlights either. I love it. Woods all around but not to far from civilization either. I love to go camping, love to cook, I love to knit and crochet, oh wow I really enjoy alot of things Love my dogs and my cat. As a matter of fact just took in another lab that was abused he still needs to gain some weight back but he is in good health otherwise. that makes two labs, a terrier, and one cat. I have been with my husband for 12 years now, and on most days he is pretty wonderful LOL I have been considering WLS for about five years now. I have been actively working toward my surgery since last April, should hopefully be getting scheduled for Feb. Almost there! My family is being very supportive about the whole thing. I am a nurse LPN, and I am in college via the internet, working toward an Associates Degree in "Medical Records" I haven't been able to work in about 11 years now, (although I have been able to take care of family medical problems which has kept me in practice) and that is one of my long term goals to be able to go back to work. I have some chronic illnesses that keep me from working but Slow and Steady Wins the Race. I will get there eventually I hope. I love this site and the support and information I always find here, very glad to get to know all of you.

Nifty idea :)

I just turned 28 in December.  I had RNY 15 mos ago 10/30/07.

I work as a nurse, currently at LVH cedar crest, I live in Easton now.  Actually - all of that is fairly new to us.  Hubby and I (along with our two small four legged fur people) moved from Jersey to Easton in November.  I had worked in a small community hospital before this and now work in a VERY huge ER which is still a challenge although I am adapting fairly well, or so I think

And I have since found out I get bored easily.  Right now I only work 3 days a week - so I decided to fill in my "spare" time by going back to work for the place I used to work for anyway!  Crazy idea, but what the hell!  As far as what I like doing...I love watching movies w/ the hubby...exercising (crazy as that one sounds..)....OH is definately an addiction at this poin****ching food porn (foodnetwork), and playing in the kitchen with different (new and old) recipies.

Hubby and I will be trying to start a family sometime this year....we shall see....I've been maintaining my weight since about September and am very happy with my results, Barix, and Dr. P  And sooooooo grateful for all my wonderful friends here....without all the support this journey would not have been nearly as successful.

Good MOrning - Great idea Lisa!

Lets see... I will be 29 in June (6/4/80) and I am almost 2 years out from lap RNY (1/30/07). Dr Brader performed my life altering surgery. I live in Easton, PA with my hubby of almost 4 years (4/17/05). We are hoping to start our family this year God willing.

By day I am a graphic designer/project manager/ inside sales / LED specialist and paint coordinator for a Union Sign Comapny in Horsham PA - City Sign Service. I have been here almost 5 years and love what  I do most days! lol

I have 2 cats that hubby and I adopted from the SPCA last year and they are terrific! I always wanted a lap cat and now I have 2! We purchased our home last year (1/25/08) and got them soon after.

My hobbies are cooking - I am a strong believer that there isn't much I can't make WLS friendly! Challenge me if you want! I love to spend time in the kitchen and sharing what I make and the recipes with those close to me. I also sew, both clothing and other things, I am going to try my hand at a quilt this winter. I also enjoy just spending time with my hubby. I love him more every day (well most days! lol) and look forward to starting our family!

I have a large circle of WLS friends. My family and I are super close - I talk to my MOm at least once a day, my Aunt was my matron of honor and all of my cousins were in my wedding. I see them all the time and love it!

Well I think that I rambled on enough! lol

Hi Lisa!  I'm a newbie here also.
I'm out here, just north of Pittsburgh.  I'm married with 3 kids, DD-21 graduating from IUP soon She has a double major in marketing/international business and she's started looking for a job anywhere; if anyone hears of one (she'll have me out on the corner wearing a sandwich board soon LOL)..poor kid, lousy economy!  DS-18 graduating HS and off to PSU main campus in the fall, and DS-13 in 7th grade.  I started after college as an art teacher, then with two moves, last from OH to PA (Philly- we lived in West Chester), I reinvented myself in the business world and worked for a Fortune 500 in Wilmington.  I eventually led business process improvement and traveled a lot.  Two more moves and I'm now I'm a stay at home mom.  I keep busy with the kids activities, volunteering, and I've always got a major creative project going at home...new house, but we finished our basement ourselves (I never want to mud drywall ever again), I put in a pond/waterfall, lots of tiling, painting and decorating...keeps those creative juices flowing and saves us money doing it myself.  We love antiquing and flea markets (and now eBay) for little inexpensive items and have lots of collections (ie. I collect red wooden handled kitchen tools from around the 50's).

Oh, I'm 49 and will be turning 49 7/8 this year (forever).  I'm getting the Lap Band late April or early May, same time as my B-Day and it will be about the same time my 2 oldest graduate, so that will be interesting...lots of company (I'm very close to my huge extended family also- out of state) and big graduations parties...and me healing and on liquids, hmm.  It will be a year of changes for all of us.  I'm not telling anyone but DH about the surgery so that will make it interesting with so much company.  I've got great girlfriends here and there has been lots of PS on our street (not me, couldn't afford it even if I wanted to), and none of them were fat to begin with (so I'm the fat friend).  I know everyone would support me with this decision, but I just don't want to have to explain myself or get constant questions.  I've lost major weight several times and have yo-yo'd my whole life (so no one will think anything about me losing)...I'm SOOO looking forward to keeping it off and getting off meds and feeling healthy again.

I started a Blog (didn't even know what that was before) on LBT where I started my research (need to find a new home for it) and I've found it helps me a lot even if no one reads it...I share EVERYTHING there, usually in a humorous way (I'm a glass is half-full person) although I vent there some.  Here's one of my first entries about my rough start on this journey since I was so close to the minimum 35 BMI...you'll get a chuckle (and it sums up my personality)...go ahead and laugh (I can now). http://www.lapbandtalk.com/blogs/51088/blog7550.html

Nice to meet you all!

Hi there - I'm Kathy - will be 52 in June and had my RNY 2/18/08 so I'm coming up on my first surgiversary. I have lost 156 pounds to date and am thrilled about it - I would like to lose at least 35-40 more but am struggling right now and fighting for each and every stinking pound, but I know I can do it.

This year will be my 20th wedding anniversary (11/11) - I have a wonderful husband - we have no children together (except for our little furry one, Jude) but he has 5 daughters, 26 grandchildren and going on 13 great-grandchildren (he's 19 years older than me). I have one daughter and 3 beautiful granddaughters.

I work as an office admin for GE in King of Prussia - love my job and the people I work with - its a very small office, only 10 of us. I work in the Environmental Programs division and with geologists and lawyers - we clean up site that have been contaminated over the years by things we didn't know contaminated (when we were using them 40-50 years ago), and sites that we have bought over the years - we deal a lot with EPA and the government - it can be exciting and frustrating at the same time.

My husband and I love cruising - last year we went on our 7th cruise - so far we've stuck to the Caribbean and Bermuda - we like going to warm, sunny climates. Someday we'll do an Alaska cruise but probably not anytime soon after this lousy winter!! I love to read but my passion is home decorating, and if I didn't have this job I would definitely be an interior decorator - I love HGTV and watch it as much as possible.

Its been nice meeting all of you! Maybe someday we'll meet in person.

Kathy
