Monday Fitness Thread
Well, although my eating was not horrible over my vacation - I apparantly put on about 4 pounds since last week which is really freaking me out.
I am in for a work out with a new video I had gotten for Christmas and have yet to do it. It's led by one of the women on "Biggest Loser". We'll see how that goes. But something definately needs to be done this week!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
I have to use this time to give myself a pat on the back for hitting the gym on a Sunday! Yes, it's true.. it's true. I met my friend Kara at the gym yesterday and did 45 mins on the elliptical and then another 25 mins on the treadmill. I'm having a little bit of a problem with shin splints so that really hinders my progress on the treadmill... once I bump it up over 3.7 and a 2.0 incline my shins start to ache and burn. Someone told me I need to get more potassium so I'll give that a shot. I went home and did arms/shoulders with my free weights.
Tonight it'll be more of the same! I've been diligent about getting to the gym at least 4 times a week and I've been going strong for about a month now! I just keep reminding myself how much better I feel when I'm active and it's becoming an addiction!

It was pretty challenging.
At incline level 15, I had to hold onto the bar and do a really brisk walk, I couldn't keep up running with the treadmill at that level. I would have slid right off.
But I ran at everything incline 10 or less. The only other modification I did was the last five minutes I did at 6 mph, not 6.5.
The treadmill said I burned 750 calories in 45 minutes, so I'm pretty happy with that, although I have to tell you that doing a 4.5 mph run on zero incline for 35 minutes leaves me WAY sweatier, although the calorie burn comes up lower. It's all kind of baffling sometimes.
I am going to stick with it and see if I can build my way up to running at the higher incline.

Try tweaking it so that you start your walk at the maximum 15.0 incline and walk at the max incline for 30 minutes. Then 30 - 35, drop the incline to 10.0; 35 - 40, drop the incline to 5.0; then, when you hit 40 minutes and the 5-minute run to fini**** off, drop the incline to zero so that you are running on flat ground. That should allow you to increase the speed to at least 6.5 - 7.0 MPH. There is no possible way that you can run any faster than 5.0 MPH or so with any incline at all or, as you said, you'll just slide off.
And you're right... at 15.0 incline, you WILL have to hold on either the bar or the top of the console... and, once you get up over 3.8 or 3.9 MPH, the walk is quite brisk. You'll feel it in your core, your thighs and your rump. LOL

Hi Everyone,
I met my goals last week of cycling 40 miles (actual 45) and I got to the gym 3 days for additional cardio and weights. This week I have the same goal. My gym bag is in the car as well so I'll go right from work.
Over the weekend I started shopping for a new road bike. Very exciting.
Hope you all have a great week sweating.
