Caught in the Act!
As most of you know I just started my new job and one of their "rules" is no eating at your desk. We all know we must eat every 2 to 3 hours. I usually work out in the morning on my elliptical and then feed my kids breakfast and get them ready but I don't grab anything for myself. I usually eat either a yogurt or banana at my desk. Anyway this morning I was eating my yogurt and one of the other supervisor Bi&$hes me out so my boss comes over to tell me no eating at my desk. I was so embaressed but morning are really busy for me and I am so used to eating at my desk. I now work with over 500 people and everybody is supposed to eat in the company's cafeteria. I am salaried employee not hourly so today I decided that I will be taking about 10 minute breaks every 2-3 hours. I have another new hire that started with me who is 5 months pregnant who is going thru the same thing. I mean we can't even eat grapes or bananas at our desk. Has anybody heard something so CRAZY!! I feel like I am in grade school but I don't want to tell my boss I had WLS because its nobody's business but mine. What do you think?? Pam I know you will relate to this...
Shilpa,
I'm sure there are people who smoke and go out every 2 hours to do that (I know I did years ago when I smoked), so taking an "eating" break is healthier, but you might want to tell her that you have a health condition that warrants you being able to eat something every 2 to 3 hours and that you will need these breaks to do so. If you needed a doctor's note or something, I'm sure Dr. P. would give you one and it does not have to say a word about WLS. It can be hypoglcymecia or something of that nature. . . Or if you are ok with it, just take the breaks, you are entitled to breaks are you not? Just an idea, since you are new to the job, I know whenever I'm new to a job, I don't want to make waves until I have a lay of the land. . . ;)
Have a good day,
Laureen

Hi,
I agree. I'd explain why you have to do that and actually, I don't eat every two to three hours. I drink lots of water and that is one think I would make sure my supervisor understood. Food breaks are good too even for stretching and taking a breather. Enjoy your new job!
I wonder what happened to cause this strict rule. Inquiring mind wants to know.

I think that is a crazy rule!! If I didn't eat at my desk I wouldn't eat at all most of the time! In the spring/summer/fall we try to go outside and eat lunch. I agree with everyone else though - tell your boss (if she asks) that you are hypoglycemic and have to eat every 2 hours. Legally I believe that if you work 8 hours you are entitled to 2 15 minute breaks and 1/2 hour lunch.
Good luck with it!

I had to deal with a rule like that when I was pregnant and had GD... they didn't care... no eatting at all... so I would take my snack in my purse and then go to the bathroom and eat it at the sink lol... screw them lol... most places if you make a big deal about this will just get rid of you and hire someone else that won't "complain"... I even had letters from my PCP, my OBGYN, my Prenatal high risk doc, etc... they just didn't care and told me don't eat and keep your job... or eat and lose it...
Oh you are funny in the caught in the act why not show them your card from the barix clinic. I can see their point because people have spilled stuff on their desks and computers so mayben if you show the boss your card she might let you take a small break. I think that if you told your boss she would have to keep it to herself or else her job could be in jeporday. Thats conifdential info and they have to respect it.
