For the ladies, having some female problems!!

Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem post op. I have had my period 4 times since my surgery on Nov. 11th. It is making me crazy, I had ablation for problems about 2 years ago and was only having to deal with it for 2 days afterward.  My surgeon tells me it is probably just my body's way of adjusting to the change and the weight loss, my PCP is losing his mind and wants my to get to my gyno ASAP. Have an appt. this Monday, see what she says. Like I said was just wondering if anyone else had had anything like this happen. Thanks in advance for any input.

You will probably get a few replies . I have read on this and other forums that some have experienced this. Me ? I hadn't had one in about six months then the day of surgery  WAM ! I got it a couple of months after but none since ( pre meno , probably completely by now) From what I have read it has to do with all the hormones being released by the body during the weigh loss. It's better to be safe than sorry about going to your gyno on monday. It will put your mind at ease. Good Luck

I've had problems with dysfunctional uterine bleeding and hyperplasia in the past and then I had some crazy issues post-op with my period.  The good part is that I was finally able to get my first unmedicated period in years (I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) but the bad part is that it wanted to keep coming back and/or not leaving.  I was told that weight loss releases hormones, and I guess those hormones can wreak havoc.  I went to my gyn and she put me on Yaz and that has regulated everything again quite nicely.

I hope your gyn is able to help you.  Hang in there. Take care.

Thanks for your replies. From all that I have heard from everyone I have talked to, I don't think it is anything all that bad. Will still keep the appt. with gyno. and see what she has to say. Thanks again and take care.

Sorry I"m so late posting.....

Anyway - sometimes due to the blood thinners generally given after surgery your period can be heavier, more frequent, etc. especially when combined with the physical stress your body is put under from the surgery AND then there's the whole hormonal release from the weight loss (estrogen is stored in fat in females...so as you are losing weight rapidly you are throwing estrogen around rapidly as well)

Hope it all works out for you!

Pam

I never used to get a period unless I took drugs to bring one one.  After the 10 day liquid diet, I started my period on the day of surgery and then pretty much have been regular for the last 18 months.  Sometimes it is every 6 or 8 weeks, but other times it is every 28 days.

I don't know what the reason is for the changes, but going to your gyn is never a bad idea...  Anytime something changes, it's good to get it checked out.  I am sure your doctor mentioned that many women find they are more fertle after surgery then they were before.

Thanks for the additional input. Went to the gyno. yesterday and she wants me to wait a few months and see if things straighten out. If not, I have 2 options. She recommends I have a hysterectomy since this is the second time I have had this problem or I can try the ablation again and hope it has long term results. Think I will wait a few months and see what happens. She said she is pretty sure it is from the hormone and estrogen changes from the weight loss, but I am really tired of it. When I get my period this often it makes me soooo tired, which I'm sure you understand. Like  I said. thanks a bunch.
