I am posting this on your site because very few in other states know what Scrapple is.
I recently had scrapple when in Delaware. I fell in love with it. Now my friend wants to send me some. I will be having a VSG done and am wondering if down the line, I would be able to have it or should I just tell him not to send any.  I just wondered if any of you have tried it after your surgery and how did you do on it? I mean I lived without it all these years, so I will be fine, but if I could have it maybe off and on, that would be great!
Also, can you freeze it?
Thanks for any info!

Girl,Yes to all of the above~ I always have atleast 2 blocks of it on hand and i keep it frozen,Now depending on your surgery i would ask your surgeon,I had the DS and have enjoyed it atleast 2 times a month when i make big breakfasts for my hubby and kids! I had it when i was able to eat solids after surgery and its soft inside and crunchy on the outside (gotta have it that way),so no problems with it at all!Hope it hepls!HUgs Trish

My only concern is that it is generally quite high in fat.  Depending on your guidelines (and healthy eating in general) is that you probably shouldn't have it due to that fact alone.  that being said...have we all had something we shouldn't have?  Probably a good majority.  I personally try not to keep things "on hand" that I shouldn't have because it's just way to big of a temptation.  Also, I don't know how you had it...but generally speaking to prepare it you pan fry it in some butter and top it with syrup - again - loads of fat and depending on the syrup, sugar.

Just a thought....

I don't know how it was prepared, but we also prepared it at his home and we just put it in the George Forman Grill....and we ate it plain with an egg . I know it is not something someone would eat on a daily basis but it was still quite a treat and one I'd like to have again. I heard that many eat it on a sandwich but I loved it just plain.

I have never had luck with freasing it.  I am not sure how to describe it, it would get ucky and would not fry right for me once frozen.  It is true that depending on how it is made it may have a high fat content.  Some people make it that it is more like mush, they use a high amout of corn meal in it and not as much of the fat. When I make it I use a griddle and no oil or margarine.  Put it over a low heat and cook it slowly.

Since I have had surgury I have had it once and I did not eat much but I enjoyed it with no problem.  So good luck with it.

My friend also said he had frozen it and for some reason it crumbled and was kinda soggy. He said it changed the whole texture of it. Again, that could depend on the brand and the type that you get. Thanks for responding.

Sherry - I have had it several times since surgery, I cook it in a frying pan with just a little bit of olive oil. I do freeze it and it is a different texture until you cook it then it is all the same! I do blot it heavily on paper towels before I eat it - believe it or not the egg bothers me!

Enjoy in moderation!

I hear that alot about the egg thing. I'm kinda worried about that one. I love eggs now, so I wonder what will happen afterwards. I guess I will find out huh?

Thanks for the reply.
