Road Trip to the ER...

I need to shut my nursing brain off...

Did the ER give you a strainer?  You need one.  Strain ALL your urine until you pass the stone.  You might not see it otherwise, they can be soooo small like a grain of sand.  If you capture the bugger and see a urologist they can send the stone out to see what it is made of.  And then make reccommendations on your diet.  That can be a tricky balance for us - because the two most common causes are calcium and purines.  Calcium obviously is in dairy - purines in meat.  Hmm.  What do we need the most of??

Also...good news is once the pain subsides without the drugs...generally speaking it doesn't come back.  The pain generally occurs when the stone is at the UVJ joint...where the ureters meet the bladder...and it is the most narrow point AND the stone needs to make a turn...and it gets stuck causing the pain.  Once the stone has moved from that position....the pain is no longer an issue as it can "freely" pass through the rest of it.

Thank you Pam  I loved that dress on NYE and felt so good in it. ..

Yes, they sent me home with my strainer to get the stone as of yet it has not come out but the pain is almost gone...The nurse waarned I may not even catch it and that is ok as well. So time will tell and hope they do not return because the pain was intense...

We really do have a great support system here and that just leaves me breathless when I think about it..

Uhmmmm, HELOOOOOOOO!!!!  Was anybody going to call me???  I feel HORRIBLE that I didn't know, Beth.  My computer is acting up, so I didn't get a chance to get online yesterday.  I am so sorry that you had to go through that, but am glad everybody was there to comfort you.  I have to make sure that ALL the girls have my cell #.

Sooooooooooooooooo glad you are doing good and that they found what it was.  Take care and I'll talk to you soon.

Hey Beth,
Soooo glad things worked out well. I know we share the same surgery date but this is a bit ridiculous. You may recall that I also had a bout with a stone at 8 mths out and it goes down in the annals of my adventures. The family we have here is amazing and the support is just on a even higher level.
Loving the new avatar.
See ya real soon,

Dennis

Well there Dennis  it seems that we are sharing many things along this journey and why I could have passed on the recent one it served a purpose to make me know just how my extended family means to me and they are there for me when I need then. They stood beside while I was down they also made sure those I love and could not be at my bedside were kept in the loop and calmed knowing I was in good hands...

So can a girl get any luckier????

I love that avatar as well for so many reason about the whole night it was taken ...I will have to tell you about it sometime.

**hugs**

OMG - why didnt you say anything when we were writing yesterday.  I am glad to hear you are better today.  Stones are not fun. I have been dealing with them a bit since early last year and the pain is beyond unbelievable (much worse for me than labor and delivery of my kids).

I hope this little guy passes for you and that will be the end of it.  Hope you are feeling better ...and like Karen said - someone should have given me a call, I feel bad that I didnt know.

I totally understand how traumatic they can be for someone.  I was in Michigan visiting my daughter and son-in-law when my son-in-law got one.  My poor daughter rushed him to the ER.  The stupid doc in the ER did not do the MRI, and sent him home.  He was doubled over, and vomiting.  That night, my daughter got him back in the ER, and they did the MRI.  They told him the stone was the size of a grain of rice.  He suffered for a week and a half with it, but did have good drugs to help him ride it out.

Hang in there.  I am hoping your episode is brief.

Hugs,
Trish
