Oprah on CNN
Did anyone see Larry King Live on CNN last night?? Its funny because she is now 40 pounds heavier then she was in year 2006. This is the reason I got the gastric bypass surgery its not that I don't know how to lose the weight its that i don't know how to keep it off. I need to mention that one of the things that her "Team Oprah" members said was that Oprah needs to recommit herself to losing the weight she has gained back and that everyday you have to dust yourself off and get right back on the horse again if you fall off the previous day. I do that every single day when I eat bad or do not want to excercise I have to talk myself into doing that hour at the gym or any other physical activity for the day. We all do not have the luxury that Oprah has with her millions but we do have this powerful gift that was given to us, and the second chance to living a so called normal life. Sorry this was so long but that episode inspired me to do better with the tool I have been given by my surgeon. So here is to Dr. P if you are reading the boards I absolutely LOVE You Doc...LOL
We'd like to think that with all her money, personal trainers, dieticians and personal chefs that she would be able to take it off and keep it off, but we forget that she's human just like the rest of us and struggles with those food demons every day. And the older she (we) get, the harder is to to take it off once we piled it back on.
I agree with you, tho, that we've been given this amazing tool and every day we have the chance to re-new it and our commitment to it and to ourselves - because I know I'm far from perfect - I've eaten stuff I know I shouldn't - and over the holidays indulged too much in alcohol and junk food, but its time to get back into the swing of things and work this tool - get back to exercise and back to the basics, as Liz said.
I hope Oprah can get a handle on her weight and her fears - its a daily struggle for all of us with food addictions, and just because you're rich and famous you don't lose that stinking head hunger, same as we didn't lose it when we had this surgery. I think this is even beyond Dr Phil's realm now!! LOL!!

I did not see it - but what you said is so true. Sooooo many people, including myself, have lost hundreds of pounds in the past, it's the keeping it off that seems to be the issue. And somethign I struggle with daily. I've maintained for awhile now. And reality is, I have never been as "small" as I am now, let alone maintaining that weight. The fear of gaining is still right back in my face, every minute of every day. OK maybe not every minute, but darn close to it. And yes, over the holidays I had extra carbs and even some extra sugar. And I didn't gain weight. Basically because the "extra" wasn't, in reality, all THAT extra. Heck, when I went to my parents house they bought crystal lite for me, and cheesesticks, and I packed yogurt and ricotta cheese. And just because Oprah has her team....doesn't mean she wants at that moment what they prepare for her. And we have all caved, be it post op or pre op, to what we "want" as opposed to what we "need".

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
I will probably get a booing for this one so I will just say it. I watched Oprah monday afternoon and she was litterally beating herself up for re-gaining the weight and took ownership of it. My theory is that no matter how many trainers and personal chefs you have its still you that has to get out of that bed and exercise. I have to give her credit because she is being brutally honest about herself and that is not an easy thing to do. I wonder what her reason for having Carney Wilson on for was? Was it to say even people that have the gastric can re-gain too. If so, I don't know how I feel about that one?
You know there are so many people that have problems with weight, and struggle with it. We all know how terrible it is to do the yo-yo thing, and to feel like you have let yourself down and everyone you love down because you have regained again. I can't even imagine how horrible it is for her to be so talked about and everyone in her face about this whole weight thing. Being happy with yourself and your life is what is important. I think it is horrible how Oprah weight is a major topic of "news". I think people ought to support her instead of picking her apart. (I mean the media when I say that) I know she signed up for all this being a celebrity but I do think that she ought to have some privacy and cut the woman some slack. It just upsets me that there are so many more important things in this world to talk about and do something about and CNN is spending time "reporting" on Oprah's weight problems. Sorry I didn't mean do get preachy this is one of my pet peeves I guess.
