Heather,
I'm so proud of you. Now just repeat Kathy's story every time you see a bowl of candy or a tray of some baked goodies, and you'll gag!

HG - Hang in there!  (I threw out all the remaining candy and problematic foods in the house today too! I sure hope all of the candy is out of the office by the time I return on Jan 20.)

Kathy -- that is a great story to keep in mind.  I've always heard also you should never eat unwrapped candy or mints from a restaurant.  Especially those located at the front of the place -- they are supposedly covered in urine due to men's bad hygiene and poor hand-washing.  Ick. Sorry, I shared that!

Don't be sorry...I for one will be very happy you shared it after I stop gagging :)

Actually, the eating candy out thing is true.  WW did a study on the mints that restaurants used to have in a bowl when you paid and got ready to leave.  Remember those?  They wanted to see how many calories the loose ones were so they collected some and ran tests to establish calorie counts.  They came up primarily as urine.  People were finishing dinner, going potty, not washing up and then grabbing some candy.  I NEVER eat from anything that's "community" anymore.  A security guard at my old job watched the cameras for an elevator in the tower where the "important" people were (senior veeps, etc.).  The stories she used to tell me about what people would wipe on the buttons completely made me vomit.  There.  Now I shared TOOOOO much. Oh, and NEVER put your hand on an escalator handle on the ride up.  Trust me.  You don't want to know what's been on it.

my weakness is birthday cakes or pastry and m&m's but I know the price I am going to pay if I eat them so no thank you. ewww I never thought of touching unwrapped candy or mints because you never know who has been there before you and what they touched before you go to help yourself. I had to chuckle when I saw that it was a bag of pink ones though its amazing how sweets are made for any cause or holiday and people seem to think that they have to celebrate every occasion with food.  When I push a door or any button I use my sleeve on my elbow and when I go to a public toilet I use an paper towel to flush.  Okay thats TMI but true.

My mom always taught us to flush using our foot.  I never thought much about the buttons in the elevators though.  If I read much more of this stuff, I am going to become a germaphob!!
