xpost: First real WOW!!
I tried on a bunch of clothes that were gotten over the summer (pre op), because we are going on a cruise next month!! We bought the clothes on the clearance racks (I was hoping to fit into them) for real cheap! I'm currently in a size 14 pants and a Large shirt (wore one of my DH tshirts today). This body "image" thing, I've never really been able to see. I posted somewhere recently that I don't have any mirrors really in my house that show below the shoulders. The clothes I tried on today were Large (few), Mediums (mostly) and get this one SMALL!!!!! ALL but 1 fit! The one that didn't fit was a medium sleeveless sweater. It fit, but just not to my liking. A friend of mine was there while I tried them on, she said it was fine. While doing this fashion show, I would look in the mirror in my parents dining room (it is about 3 1/2 ft tall and 7 foot long and the bottom of it is at chair rail height)........damn, I'm starting to look good!!!
I have to pull my DH away from his new BlackBerry so he can take a couple pictures of me for my 4 month post op update!! I don't know how long this is going to last (that I see the difference), so I'm going to enjoy it now, before this body dissolves in to the "pre op" image!!!!

That whole body image thing really throws you for a loop sometimes doesn't it? It's really tough to see yourself as everyone else does and it takes a while for our brains to catch up. When it finally does, it seems so surreal sometimes. I'm like you and don't have any full length mirrors in my house so I had very bad body image issues for quite some time. I really struggled with it but I've gotten alot better with it now. I'm sure that with enough time though, you'll get better with it also and be able to see yourself just as everyone else does. In the meantime, keep enjoying it and savor every moment while it's fresh in your mind.
Congrats to you again!
P.S....We love to see pics so be sure to post them once you take them..That is of course if you don't mind sharing them.
Thanks Valerie!!
I just don't understand this whole image thing. Why can't our minds just process the way we look properly?! I've read about so many people going through this, and I thought, "wow...I can't wait until I've lost 20 lbs, I know I'll look great"! Didn't happen! And I saw people wearing clothes that were way too big for them, thinking man...just go out an get some clothes a bit smaller so you look better! I can't tell you how many times I wear clothes that are about 2 sizes too big!! Because I'm soo use to hiding under my clothes! I will savor every moment I see the "real" me!
I will definitely share pics!!

For some people, it can take a looooong time to come to terms with their self image. It's hard having to accept the new you after you accepted the old you for so long but it does get a little easier as time goes by. Like you said though just savor every moment and remember that the next moment is always right around the corner.
Congrats to you again and keep up the great work!
And yet...I pull jeans out of the dryer and think to myself....damn they've shrunk...and not only have they NOT shrunk...but at this point they are to big and I am going shopping today for new ones in a ridiculously small size that I doubt I will be able to get into.
I look at photos and realize how far I've come. But in every day life, almost 14 mos out...I don't see it.
Congratulations on such a great WOW moment and definately definately get the hubby to take those pics....you will appreciate them oh so much as time goes on. Definately try for monthly. And do measurements as well - they will come in handy!!
Pam
Thanks Pam!!
I never would've dreamed that Med shirts would fit me!!! I can't remember when I ever wore Med! I always wore Large or XL, I hid under my clothes for sooooooo long!
Hope you had fun shopping! When I went to Kohl's today, I tried on a dress.....a woman looked at it and shook her head. Then says, you've got such a cute figure, other dresses would flatter you more! I was discussing with my mom that I didn't care for it and that it was a bit too snug. My mom said my face just beamed!! I was dumbstruck, I couldn't even say thank you to the lady before she walked away!
