A question about eating... (x-post RNY)

Okay, this question may seem silly or fundamental, but I really need to know.
My surgeon's office just says 'eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full.' That's all it says on the diet paper I got.
I have a food scale and I have no problems measuring... the thing is, I don't know how much I'm supposed to have! I know that eventually I should be able to eat a small meal (very small, but still more than just cottage cheese)... but what are the amounts?
My mother is totally freaking out saying I'm going to stretch out my pouch and everything would have been for nothing... the thing is, I'm not eating much at all-- just a little more than I did when I got home from the hospital. I am in no way reaching 800 cals.
Part of the reason I got so fat was her (or someone) watching everything I put into my mouth! That drives me bananas! So I would hide and eat. So I thought I'd ask here how much I should eat... and maybe I can get her off my back.

Elizabeth,

My name is Donna, you are still so very new hunny and you only want to eat very small portions 6 times a day.  Say if you have to guess at a size or amount I would say 1/2 to no more then a cup of whatever you are eating which I believe you are on softs by now correct?  If you do any protein shakes for one fo thopse meals then it should be about a 6-8 ounce size.

With your mom and others, hunny I feel your pain.  You must put them out of your head now, you took the right road to do something for yourself not for them.  Let them watch, let them talk, in the head their mouths will drop when you are amd will be stunning.  Your a beautiful girl and other people think they are helping but they are causing us more grief inside.  Do not hide to eat any longer.  Hold your head high, eat small amounts of what you have been told to eat and if unsure ask in here, and eahc day you will get stronger and able to defeat these people who are in all your enemy or weight gain.

Keep your chin up, you will be just fine and welcome to the loosers side.

Donna

THANKYOU!
That's what I've been doing-- about a half cup-- and that's of the lighter, more liquid things... denser things I only eat about 1/4c. I never thought that was much but apparently my mother (whom I'm living with til my hubby gets home) thinks it's a huge amount!
Oooh I could just hug you... thank you for your response!

You are doing ok and as I am a mom I respect your mom but mom did not have the surgery, you did and 1/2 cup is ok.  If you can't finish that because your full then that is fine in 2 hours have some more.

Hang in there sweety you will be just fine.

Thanks Pam, you made me smile.  I know I don'ty always see it in myself but in clothes I do.  I do however feel at a dang stand still for past few weeks and need to exercise and need a hammer to hit me over head to get my gears going.

I just changed my avatar to one of me with my new grandduaghter who is 5 months....but on this end I do nto see it it still is showing my old one of me alone in black.  Which pic are you seeing?

Thanks so much,

Donna

Yes, it is the one w/ your granddaughter.

You are not seeing it because your computer is storing cookies and doesn't change the pics often.  It happens to me all the time.

You can hold down the ctrl key and click the refresh button on the web bar (I think it is the control key...if not...try the shift key and the same thing)

Or you can go into computer settings and delete your cookies.

Then it should show up.

If that doesn't work....it will show up eventually, just takes some time.

but you tell your mom to back off! harsh but the truth lol... don't let her stress ya out and ask any questions you want here hun... someone will know the answer... and don't freak out about calories right now either... just take it one day at a time...

This is what is so sad about doctors who are not really informed about after care.  I know there is a great need in medical staff education in bariatrics..

This board is a great resource for all of you and I hope you can point other post ops in your area to this board too.

Clueless about weight loss and weight loss surgery of any kind.
