Could someone give me some info please.

Hello eveyone.  I  have heard that after surgery you will have a drainage tube until you leave the hospital. If this is the case, could you please share your experience with me. I have heard that it is a little painful when it is removed. Just would like to know what to expect when my time comes for surgery. I would love to hear anything else that you feel people should prepare for before surgery.

Hey!  Its great to see Dr. B's patients from Lancaster posting (most of us around here are from his pre-lancaster general days).  I didn't have any problem with the drainage tube....I think the thought of it is worse than the actual removal.  It me it was like a weird, tickley feeling....no pain at all....definitely not something you are used to feeling on the inside of your body.

not all drs use drains. My dr. doesn't use drains. There are lots of Brader's babies on here - Im sure they can tell you if he uses them.

I had surgery at Barix with DR Pupkova and I had a drainage tube. I have heard that some doctors do not use them anymore. You will need to ask your doctor if he will use. It was not that painful to remove. They tell you to take a breath and they pull it out really fast. It was more of
a pulling sensation than pain.

Hello!! I too am a Brader Baby - he is fantastic!!! I had a bit of a problem with my tube - when the nurse went to take it out it wasn't coming as easily as it should have - it just hurt for a second. She got Dr Brader to come pull it out - it did hurt for about 10 seconds. Nothing unbearable just uncomfortable. Ask them to give you the pain medicine before you do it - can't make it worse right?!

mine was a mix of man that just doesn't feel right to it tickled to it hurt just a little... it is one of the hardest things to explain to people how it felt because I haven't ever had anything feel like that before lol...

I'm not a patient of Dr. braders but I'm a Barix baby my doctor (Dr. Marymour) came in on a sunday and removed my drain..I was sooo prepared for the worst feeling in my life(listening to people stories ) but i noticed that he stressed the tube out and then pulled it out didn't feel a thing  I luv Dr. Marymour! Didn't feel a thing!

Thank you all for the great information, I really appreciate it. I am so glad to have been told about this board I am learning so much. Some things make me feel a little scared, but I would rather know all the different experiences and what to expect then not. Thanks Again all!!

I'll add my .02 -- I had the same experience as LadyJwb....didn't feel a thing. Of course we had the best doctor in the universe. I'm not biased or anything...nah, not me...lol. Good luck, it will be fine!

To be honest I don't rember having one after the bypass but I had 2 of them after the tummy tuck..  the one on my left nicked a vein and had to come out early.. I was bed for 3 straight days laying down because everytime I moved I would start to bleed from the hole.. The other one became clogged in side so that came out early.. The removal process was easy I really didn't feel anything. Almost like the feeling on taking your finger and running it down your arm.
