WTF???????????
Ok - I am 5 weeks out of surgery and have lost 24lbs so far. I bounced back and fourth the 2nd and 3rd week and really did not loose anything. Last week I thought I broke my stall and lost 5lbs. This morining is my weigh in day and the scale is up 5lbs. I do not understand this - I am only eating protein (I am cleared for regular food) I have not added carbs or fruit yet. My protein intake is between 85 - 100 gms a day (my calories fall between 600 and 700).
I am frustrated, what am I doing wrong?????????????????

Heather,
Are you getting all of your fluids in daily? Are you doing some type of exercise daily? Try not to get too discouraged, Remember, you had this surgery to change the rest of your life, not just the next few weeks. Your body is going through alot of different hormonal and metabolic changes right now. These adjustments will cause fluid shifts and sometimes the numbers on the scale just seem to bounce around. Take your body measurements, you will often find these numbers shrinking even if the scale doesn't say so. Don't forget your daily vitamins too. This is all about getting healthy as well as a smaller body. Hang in there, the pounds will come off. I think every one of us has thought early on that we would be the first person that this surgery wouldn't work for. . I wish you the best, try to stay positive and focus on all the good choices that you are making.

Thanks Chris!!
I am getting 50 - 70 oz per day of water and getting all of my vitamins in. I have been walking everyday and this week I am cleared to start to workout with my trainer again and I will be doing water aerobics 2 days/ wk I have lost a ton of inches - I was waiting till 6wks to remeasure.
I do feel like I could be the first person that this surgery does not work for I have amazing support with my husband and just tells me to stop worrying and things will happen.

Chris summed up a lot of it.
And yes, we have all been there where "this won't work for us"
Just as an aside....24 pounds in 5 weeks is almost an average of 5 pounds a week consistently. How long could you lose 5 pounds a week each week before surgery consistently? Not to long I bet.
Keep the big picture in your head. I continually have fluid and weight shifts all the time. I am basically around 130 now...but there are weeks when I'm 126 and weeks that I am 133. I would be lying to you if I told you that the 133 number didn't bother me...cause it does. But I understand I will fluctuate.
Do not get discouraged as hard as that sounds. I'm glad to hear that you are weighing yourself only once a week - and that's a good thing. Do not let numbers dictate how you feel (again...really hard to do) Little things like being more active and losing inches and not fitting into your clothes....THOSE are the things you need to look at.
Also glad to hear you are taking measurements. I did mine once a month after surgery. I wasn't as consistent with it as I had initially planned (somewhere along the time line of 6 or 8 mos I would consistently forget to measure...so I don't have every month recorded...but I do have a lot.)
You will do ok. Stick to the program. Your tool will work as long as you work the tool.
And come here and ***** any time...cause we're here to listen and have all done the same before!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
Heather,
I agree with what's been already said. I had a similar experience very early out, and I went through all the worrying that I would be the ONLY PERSON EVER that this surgery failed, and that I had already stretched out my pouch, and that I had gone through all of this for nothing and I was still going to be morbidly obese after all of this. The best thing I did was to step AWAY from the scale -- weighing daily was too much of a mind%$@* for me (pardon the expression!) -- and I've been tracking my measurements in an Excel chart and it reallly helps to see my progress that way, plus then I can make nerdy little charts and graphs showing how far I've come. It sounds like you are doing great. You are successing, as we say on this board!
(btw, I know I owe you an email -- sorry! Life has been crazy lately. I will reply later.)
