No thanks, my son got one and a few days later he was sick. The only one that got the shot and the only one that has been sick so far...

<------- doesn't believe in the flu shot.

It is made from the flu virus of last year.....guessing which strain will pop up this year.  It can be very very ineffective, especially with the rate virus' are mutating to beat our drugs (Hencs MRSA and all those other "super bugs" out there)

The point of the vaccine is to allow you to build up antibodies to it so when your body is faced with the disease it "recognizes" it and can get the proper white cells to it faster.  The thing of it is...your body is currently "fighting" a dead virus (the flu vaccine is made with a dead virus, not a live one like some other vaccs) so that's why you feel crappy.  Your body thinks you are sick when you are not.

Much to all my employers dismay I refuse the flu vacc every year (health care workers are encouraged to get it so that we don't get the actual flu which in turn we can spread to our patients before we even know we have it)  I understand that point of it - but it still doesn't prevent everyone from getting the flu.  Which means I can still get the flu AND still give it to my patients.  Hand washing and gloves for this nurse, thank you very much.

I took my granddaughter to get her first dose of the flu shot today. It's bad enough getting it myself, but to watch her go through it is worse. To top it all off, we don't know how old this house is that we are renting, and some of the paint is chipping, so guess who had to get tested for lead poisoning? Oh and the nurse was new and never had to draw blood for this test. It really shouldn't have been to bad, but she never did it before and had blood everywhere. I think I wore more than she got in the little container.  Poor Addison cried the whole time. (I wanted to, but held it in and just held her close, the poor baby)
I hope you're feeling better soon!
hugs
