I am just wondering....for us guys, what's a realistic weight loss goal for 1 year?

No such number exists.

Really.

You have to look at your starting weight, age, activity level for starters.

It's all very individual.

Ok...so I'm admittedly not a guy.  In case you haven't figured that part out yet.

From what I understand...the "gold standard" of weight loss surgery is anywhere between 50-75% of excess body weight lost in the first year.  Those were the statistics a few years ago when I began my research.

For instance...if you had 100 pounds to lose...."gold standard" would be 50-75 pounds gone in the first year.  200 pounds to lose = 100 - 150 pounds.

I could be mistaken...but I believe that is non gender specific.

And norm is also right...it depends on a lot of other factors....activity level, other health conditions, height, weight, etc etc etc

And us women always think you guys lose it faster anywho....

Gene started out January 5, 2006 @ 343 pounds, on January 5, 2007 his weight was 183 pounds which was 160 pounds lost. Not sure if this is a "normal" amount to loose the first year or not, but at the time he was exercising regularly.
Since his low weight of 180 he has gained back approx 15 - 20 pounds and fluctuates between 195 & 198. He will be celebrating his 3 year anniversary this coming January and is getting ready to have his excess skin removed from the tummy.

i really think it all depends on how strict you are with your diet and exercise. i was 6 months out about a week ago and have lost 155lbs. but that being said im am very strict with what i eat. i think the sky is the limit for how much you loose in the first year, hope this helped.
