Hello all I am new to the board:) Has anyone had their surgery at Temple University? I have heard nothing but good things about the program there so I was curious?

Hi and Welcome to the PA board.
I did not have my surgery at Temple, but I believe there are people here who did have theirs done there.  I also have heard good things.  My sister is planning to get the Lap-Band done at Jeanes, which is Temple owned.

Hope you stick around and share your journey with us.

Hugs,
Trish

Hi, I had my RNY lap. at Temple on 7/21/08. I have nothing but positive things to say about the care I recieved there. Dr Meilahn performed my surgery, while he isnt "warm and fuzzy" , he is absolutely a top notch mechanic and I would recommend him definately. Please feel free to ask me any other questions you have, Id be happy to help however i can. -Patrick

Hi my husband had his surgery at Temple with Dr. Kowalski in Jan 2006. THe staff, doctors, nurse practitioners etc are AWESOME. The hospital was awesome.

Dr. Kowalski has moved over to Jeanes Hospital and I am currently in the process of looking into having my surgery with Dr. Kowalski at Jeanes. I would not let another doctor touch me after seeing the care my husband received.

I had my surgery on Sept 16th at Temple and I can't say enough nice things.  The staff that I had interaction with was very nice and hospitable.  Not once did I feel like I was a nuisance to any of the nurses.  (I was pressing the call button constantly.) The nurses and personal care attendents were all very friendly and were always available for any help that I needed, such as getting out of the bed right after surgery.

Looks like everyone here has great things to say about Temple...me? not so much.

Dr. Meilahn is an excellent surgeon, but if I had to do it over, I would have gone to Univ of Penn.

Just my 2 cents.....private message me if you you have any futher questions.

God luck to you.

Kinda late replying. I had my surgery @ Temple back in March of this year. Overall the whole process was good. I never had any problems with pre-approvals or anything like that. As long as I kept to my appts, everything was all good. Dr. M's team are very good and very responsive. Ny is a lifesaver and knows what she's doing. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, if you're looking for warm and fuzzies, Dr. M isn't the one. I was okay with that. I wasn't looking for someone to sugarcoat things. I wanted someone who was going to be real with me. As one of the nurses said to me the morning of my surgery, Dr. M may not be well liked; but, when it came to him saving your life, he's the top choice everytime. After the surgery, he personally talked to my mother to give her an update. When I had problems/concerns and had him page, he personally called.

Considering how more informed I am of the process and of other ppls process at other places, if I had to choose all over again, it would be Temple -- without a doubt ....
