Help please. Liquids and Protein

So, I'm managing. I'm 4 days out and have minimal discomfort, so that's a good thing.

Dr. M does clear liquids for the first week and that's fine since I could care less about actually eating (althoguh everything looks and smells great) But how the HECK do I get protein in?

I cannot tolerate broths, I've tried adding my Any Whey to my drinks, and while it's tolerable i'm no where close to my 73G protein goal.

Should I just not worry about it until Monday when I start full liquids and can sneak proteins in more easily?

I'm just super exhausted and weak and I assume it's because I'm starving

I am doing OK with my water. Probablly not at 64oz but contantly drinking water.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

With Dr. P we come home on full liquids but even then it is hard to get protiens in just focus on fluids and do what you can protien wise. It will take time to get everything in you are healing and just do your best each day.

Full liquids you can have puddings and strained cream soups. Also you can add seasonings to the brothes for some flavor.

Hang in there it will all fall into place one day at a time.

Dr. P had me on clear liquids for a week after surgery as well.

Basically, according to her, concentrate on fluids especially this early out.  I choked down some nectar protein powder and water (which I hated after surgery) to get in some protein.

Also, the new whey and profect bullets are considered clear liquids.  They are nasty but I used them early on to get my protein in.  I viewed it as medicine and took my 3 swigs and held my nose and just "put my big girl panties on" if you know what I mean.

Do your best to hit your goals - but it's ok not to come close to it right now.  Full liquids should be a bit easier - but keep in mind many have trouble with lactose after surgery - so you may need to experiment with what kind of milk you feel best on.

My doctor didn't have me worry about the protein until week 2!  So hang in there, it gets easier!!!

GNC sells Isopure protein drinks that are clear liquids.  One tastes like grape Kool-Aid.  I believe they have 45 grams of protein per bottle.  That was how I met my protein goal the first week.

Good luck.
