diet
Well before surgery I was basically told the normal stuff....cut out sugar, cut down on carbs, cut down on fat, cut out caffeine......increase fruits/veggies/lean protein 6 small meals....start to exercise even if it is walking 5 minutes each day until you can do more.
I put MYSELF on a SELF INFLICTED full liquid low fat 0 added sugar diet for 1 week prior to surgery cause I had gained weight since consult and my surgeon's rule is if you gain weight prior to surgery - you don't get surgery.
The only "must thing" I had to do per my surgeon was clear liquids day before surgery nothing by mouth including gum, mints, breath strips, or medications, after midnight before surgery.
Good luck!

Instead of complaining that the rosebush has thorns, be happy that the thorn bush has roses.
I had to do a 3 month diet and exercise plan for my insurance - the diet really consisted of seeing and working with a nutritionist who put me on an 1800 calorie/day diet - like Pam I really just cut out sweets and a lot of carbs and starting working out - walking first, then I joined a gym. Without really killing myself I lost 33 lbs over those 3 months and it really helped me prepare for surgery.
I had surgery the same place as Pam (Barix) but a different surgeon *****quired a 10-day clear liquid diet prior to surgery - the first few days were the hardest , but it got easier and I lost another 17 lbs doing that - so going into surgery I had lost a total of 50 lbs - the surgeon was thrilled - I was thrilled - and my surgery and recovery went very well because of it.
Check with your surgeon and/or nutritionist to see what suggestions they have.
Best of luck to you - Kathy
