Roll Call

Ok since I am up I will start the Monday Roll Call.

I am gonna need some support and you all are soo good at it. I have been on a downhill ride since the conference and since I started my new job. My eating has been unintentional, not planned and not on the program and I am paying the piper. I have gained some weight. I am not freaking out about it because everything is a learning experience. But, I need to take a step back and get a grip. I usually resist the urge to " start a new plan" because that kind of behavior and thinking is what kept me stuck in the dieting cycle of deprivation and despair. But sometimes you just gotta detox. So this am when I wake up I will be starting the 5 day pouch test, and after that it is OFF white bread, very careful about carbs, and structured eating. I realize that I need structure, even if my plan includes a slice of pizza. It is not when we eat what we planned and keep track that we suffer, it is the unplanned impulsive hidden calories that sabotage us.

So lord help me..this could get ugly. Thank Goodness I have an appt. with my therapist tomorrow poor lady. LOL

Good Morning Nicole,
I am up too.  I hear you about the carbs.  Since my surgery in December, my carb intake has been ugly.  I was getting a grip on it, then my brother died in February.  Started to get a grip, when I wrecked my car in March.  Yada yada, you know the emotional eating thing.   Stress at work, etc.

I am coming up on my 2 year appointment in a month, and dreading it.  I have thought about trying the 5 day pouch test, but had all kinds of excuses while my daughter and the munchkin were in town.  Well, they are gone now, so I can try it.

I will begin it with you in the morning as well.  We can do this.  The key is eliminating the carbs, and getting back the control the surgery gave us in the first place.

I too am seeing my therapist, Monday evening.  Poor guy.

Hugs,
Trish

Nicole and Trish,

Wish you the best of luck on the 5 day pouch test.  It really helps you realize the carbs and any snacking you might be doing.

Nicole - I find I HAVE to have a plan for eating or I don't get in enough protein and get in way to much "junk" or other things - like fruit.  I understand fruit isn't junk - but it isn't protein either.  I have to plan everything out or I don't do well.  I also make "back  up plans" especially for while at work - because sometimes eating what I plan is not an option - so I have back ups of protein drinks or bars that I can grab in a pinch.

I am off today after I get out at 7am.  I plan on going home and napping.  My lower back has been bothering me the past two days - I think from some rough nights at work.  Hopefully some rest and ice will help it.  If not - it will be to the doctors or possibly the chiropractor.

I am planning on making up some steaks for dinner and have extra out for the rest of the week.  i've been pretty lax in getting in red meat 2-3 x a week like Dr. Pupkova wants me to do and my iron was a little low - so I am making a conscious effort to do so.

Other than that it's a day at home with me and hubby.  We might get some rain so maybe a movie on the couch is in store.

Hugs to all,

Pam

Good MOrning all - Nicole we are here - ALWAYS! Good luck with the pouch test, Trish you too!

Carbs have been an evil influence in my life lately as well and I am trying to get them under control. My exercise also hasn't been where it needs to be mostly because of my back injury - I am slowly getting back into things.

I had a crazy busy weekend and am feeling it this morning - it would have been far to easy to stay in bed but alas I am here at work for a crazy day. After work it is home to recoup.

Make it a great monday!

Good morning morning everyone.

Today has me dropping Connor off at camp, of course.  This is his last week.  He's got a busy week.  They're going to the pool today, tomorrow is Hurricane Harbor at Great Adventure and tomorrow night is the talent show.  It should be fun.  The kids were great last year.

Anyway, after I drop Connor off, I'm heading to get blood work done.  I was going to stop at Barix and get weighed but I'm afraid as it is now that time of the month.  I guess my body is getting back on track now after the miscarriage.  After blood work it's back to my house and straight into my office to get some transcribing done.  And then I have a job in Bensalem at 2:00 today.  So at least I get to stay close to home and not have to travel too far.

Well, have a great Monday.

Karen

Good luck Nicole.  I have a problem with planning and I am only 3 mo out.  I never planned anything in my life and meals are the last thing I have time to plan.  Even now I am somewhat of a snacker.  My daughter had friends over this weekend and I actually had some Cheetos & tositos with salsa.  Bad girl.
Does it get better for you during the week?  I find that I do a little better during the work week because I pack my lunch and eat it in the car.  If I don't have time to do that, I end up eating junk.
Good luck!
Gail

Nicole, I am right there with you. I'm not going to do the pouch test but I am going to start logging in my "MAKE IT A LIFESTYLE " Logbook. I to have to plan eating or it gets ugly.  Is your therapist WLS knowledgeable ? I think I need to see one. I have been going thru depression and find myself crying alot. My husband's illness and staying home to take care of him is really getting to me. I find myself taking care of everyones needs but my own. Something I have done all my life, as most obese people do. I hope we all have a blessed day. Eat healthy, drink plenty of water and get in some exercise. See you lighter. Joanne

Joanne

She isnt WLS knowledgeable. The funny thing is, is that I am a therapist and I am. I do work with post ops. LOL I have great advice I just have a hard time sometimes following it myself. I know what I need to do, limit carbs, get rid of the grazing, and get more excercise. I do pretty good for the most part, i never eat sugar, no soda etc but those carbs add up. This process is hard enough in itself but if you have extra stress like caregiving any kind of crisis it just takes it to a whole nother level.,  Make sure to take care of yourself first, Put the oxygen mask on you first or you wont be able to help others,

Good Monday morning everybody - sounds like a lot of folks are struggling with carbs these days - I am one of them. Mine is in the form of crunchy carbs so I'm trying to stick to soy chips and things like that for the crunchy fix I crave.

I did start adding protein shakes back into my diet (thanks for that advice, Mary - it worked!) and that helped with a stall I was having. I don't have 'formal' eating plans for each day but I do make sure I have enough good, healthy protein foods on hand that I can work with. I buy those pouches of tuna - 3 oz - and mix my own tuna salad at work - its easy and loaded with protein. I'm fortunate to have a little kitchen and fridge at hand so I can keep things like lite stringcheese, lo-fat cottage cheese, sf puddings, etc. on hand.

Peanut butter is also good to have on hand bu****ch what you eat it with - a friend and I were comparing peanut butters and Simply Jiff is the lowest in sugar, highest in proteins and beats other ones like Trader Joe's natural and even Smart Ones peanut butter.

So just some thoughts from me. I also keep a stash of protein bars on hand but they can be high in carbs and fat, so I'm trying not to eat as many of those these days.

Other than that is a normal work day for me - good luck to everybody trying to stop that carb rollercoaster we can all get on - you can do it!!

Kathy
