Age
I am in 2nd month of 6 months of dieting before planning on having bypass in spring 2018. I will be 60 then and had doubts about being too old. I started going to the support group at my doctor's office and some of the folks there are probably my age. Though most are post op. The doctor hasn't said anything about my age, so guessing it's ok.
Different surgeons/hospitals/insurance companies have different cut-off ages. Some programs cut off at 65, some surgeons will cut off at 70 in their private practice, but most well before that age. Some will deny you on poor health rather than age. I was 62 when I had my RnY.
Instead of 'guessing it's Ok' why don't you ask directly ? We cannot give you the specific info you need to get from your own insurance company and your surgeon.
Good luck with your weight loss: weight loss in a medically supervised and peer supported program is always a good thing no matter your age. Knowing you will have WLS covered by your insurance and that you will be approved by your surgeon at the end of it will be a wonderful incentive.
Welcome Just4me!
I understand your concern about your age. I was 58 when I had my surgery with a few co-morbidities in addition to the weight.
My surgery was SO easy...the sleeve...it was almost like I never had it! I think the fact that I lost 75 pounds during that 6 month dieting period made me feel better.
I have no regrets about getting the surgery. I have regained about 25 lbs...my own fault despite being ill and unable to exercise. I feel better, have more energy and self-confidence, look better and feel healthier.
I used to think I'd die in my 60's due to my weight and other medical issues, but now I believe I will be around a lot longer.
Best of luck!
Kathy

I'm doing great. I have had no issues at all. No pain after surgery. Just getting ready to start the next phase of food. But I am feeling really well. Back to doing water aerobics
I'd be curious to hear how you are doing post op. I will be 65 in June and will be having surgery this coming fall. I had some concerns about my age too, but after doing some research and talking with my surgeon, I'm confident that despite my age, I'm a pretty good candidate for the surgery. My surgeon 'cuts off' at age 65, but does occasionally make exceptions. Beyond being about 100 lbs overweight, I have medication controlled high BP, GERD and use CPAP, otherwise I'm in pretty good shape. Hoping, in fact, that my age may actually be of some benefit, as I notice as I age my appetite has settled some. Let me know how you're doing. Becky
