Hey All,

I've had my knee drained, injected, and drained again. The surgeon wanted to make sure my blood is good before he sets a date for the new knee so I am going to the hematologists next week, and my regular doc has made an appointment for me to get another iron infusion....so if the moon and the stars line up just right, maybe I will bet the knee done....who knows.  We close on our house soon and we have contractors coming to do things to it and I just don't want to be recovering from surgery.

On a brighter note, I am able to do a little walking around so I am catching up on the house work that sort of got behind....and I am going to go ahead and freeze some more jalepeno poppers...

Anyway, food hasn't been good for me because I like to drown my pain and sorrow in chips.  Yesterday, I put every chip and every cracker in a bag with a note explaining my lack of control and called the neighbor kid over and said take these to your mom....she sent him back with a note that said, Gee thanks, I have no control either but I do have kids who will clean this out in no time.

I hope your knee is fixed soon one way or another! Loved the chip story. I am horrible with chips too.

We are headed to my home town today for a barbecue with the family. I have two brothers and a sister-in-law...so we will have fun. There is no real drama in my family.

Yesterday they turned on our solar panels. I have a little app that shows how much is being generated. It's pretty exciting.

I played Bunco last night and won $25. Another fun party.

Hope you are all doing well!

Breakfast- protein drink

Lunch- pepper soup

Dinner- barbecued chicken, salad

Snacks- fruit and nuts

Hi Jeannie & Julia!

I have had a busy 2 days & consequently have gone off my eating plan. My oldest daughter has been here & eats nothing but junk! All kinds of chips are her favorite by the way.

Anyhow, when I got home from work yesterday she was here munching away. I get home in time for lunch & her snacking makes me crave when I'm not hungry...I get the social head hunger thing...when it's meal time & I am really hungry her snacking makes me reckless...like a dry alcoholic going into a bar!

She needed a ride so I decided to pick up KFC rather than make lunch at home. Bad choice! Then she surprised us with subs for dinner. Thankfully she got me chicken salad, but I ate the damn roll!

I need to find a way to deal with social temptation. Eating beforehand does not help!

Jeannie, glad you got your knee drained & you can move around better!

Julia, good job on the $25 win! Enjoy your family get together...we are supposed to go to my sister's Sunday, but that hurricane coming up the East Coast may be an issue...

Hi OFF family:

I have been on the road lately. Last Friday, my brother and I went to visit my family, stayed with No. 1 brother and his wife in Sycamore, Ill. Then I got together with some former coworkers from my first newspaper in Carpentersville, Ill., on Saturday. We had a great time. Then on Sunday, Gary and I went to visit Mom at the assisted living center before going to my cousin's party in Chicago. Then home again on Monday ... but first, breakfast with my college roomie, Debbie, in Kankakee.

Got home about 4 p.m. Monday and quickly did laundry, had leftovers for dinner and got ready to go again Tuesday. I'm up in Indianapolis helping a friend who had rotator cuff surgery Wednesday. I took her to PT today; we had lunch at a brewpub. Great place; good beer. She goes back to PT on Tuesday.

This will be the first Labor Day weekend I've had off in I don't know when. Copy editors (and sports writers, for that matter) don't get holidays off; we either get double time or a holiday off another day.

Jeannie, good luck with the knee. Been there three times, done that. Still hurt.

Well, I've had my legs down most of the day. I'm going to get an ice bag, put my legs up and read while I listen to the Twins-White Sox game. Have a good weekend.
