Who is the yoga momma?

Let me just say that when I do Yoga in groups of people, I never do anything that is difficult because I fear hurting myself or getting in a pose that I cannot get out of gracefully. So, I meet with a yoga instructor often and she and I are usually alone or there may be a couple of ladies my age there and we are all on the same skill level. But, she and I have been working on getting me to get out of my comfort zone and so I have been, with her help, I have been doing two posses that are rather difficult...one is for my lower back and I start by touching my knees, then I slowly stretch so that my hands are flat on the floor and I slowly walk with my hands until my butt is up in the air and my arms are far enough a way from my feet so that I can slowly arch my back and then relax it. But, she helps me...well, today, in my lunch yoga club of colleagues, I decided I was going to do that one and I was so afraid that I was going to mess up that I almost didn't do it...but I did and everyone there said I did it beautifully.  Now my back is a little sore but not bad. It's sore from being stretched so much this last week.  If my knees weren't so bad, I could really do some fancy yoga poses...but damn knees make it impossible for me to have any fun.

Linda, I especially think of you on those hikes and doing all that walking and lifting and how you are really pushing yourself and making progress and everyone else who make efforts to stretch, walk, lift, turn, spin, or dance....I do say that we are so freakin' strong, aren't we?

Hell yeah we're strong ! Repeat, repeat, repeat.

I haven't started yoga, was going to yesterday but I was whipped when I finished with the weights.  Worked biceps and shoulders and I felt like a wet noodle at the end.  I think yoga on line dance days would be better.  I would do yoga at 11 and dance at 2.

It a hot day today so outside walking is out.  John is working around the yard today and tomorrow we are going to Kemah for an afternoon sailboat ride.

Its after 10 and I am just realizing I haven't eaten.  I'd better do that.  I will have 1/3 cup of quaker oat squares.  I eat it dry like a snack.  For lunch I will have beets and grilled shrimp.  Dinner probably a lot of tomatoes before they go bad with some grilled chicken.  Snacks...I have celery and carrots on hand and also some blueberries and a couple of Kiwis.  Will figure it out.

I will walk today, I just don't know where.

Jeannie  Congratulations on your new yoga pose.  It will take me years just to wave at the floor much less touch it.  I do bend forward and let my hands hang as a hamstring stretch but I can only hang about halfway between my knees and my ankles.  I got a long way to go.

Linda,

I think the yoga is the best way to get range of motion and flexibility back. Of course, we are limited, or those of us who have joint problems, but it is so nice to bend over and pick things up off the floor without almost falling. Once you start, you will progress quickly because you have been working out. I started doing yoga and absolutely found my exercise. I can do it while sitting, standing, even lying in bed. Once you start, you will want to purchase a yoga mat--even if you do yoga on a carpeted floor The more padding the better. I totally love how good I feel during and after.

Just get the yoga for dummies or watch videos; that's how I started.  The only reason I have a trainer is because I provide writing and web support for my yoga coach...when I say web support, I don't mean the technological support but the editing.  Anyway, I cannot wait to read your progress.  Yeah!!
