Wednesday's musings
Hey I'm the first on this morning.
I'm headed back to the Y. Don't know what muscle group we are working today but I am just happy happy happy that it isn't legs. I feel like I've been on a horse for a week.
Nothing much on my agenda after that. I have to finish laundry but that is easy, just time consuming. Takes me hours since I only use the extra low setting on my dryer. Maybe I'll take out my dulcimer an practice some of the techniques I learned in Mountain View. I need to keep it out in plain view. I have a tendency to practice more if I see it.
Once again I want to say yesterday's posts were insightful. Got me to thinking about weekly prepping. That is my short term goal, spend one day a week as my own sous chef doing what I believe is called misen place. (getting everything in place). Chopping, dicing, slicing, etc., etc, etc.
What is your short term goal?
Good Morning Linda!
Thanks for starting the thread. I found yesterday to be interesting & helpful. I DO need to be careful about my eating and possible regain bc it truly amazes me how this tool can work if you just follow directions!
Like Trish sugar & sweets/carbs can be my downfall. Since I have the sleeve I do not dump or feel restriction so that is a slippery slope I need to avoid.
I have really come to enjoy exercise! My daughter & I went to several stores yesterday looking for furniture. I reminded her how I didn't have the energy for that the past 5 or so years...& by 2014 rarely even left the house. My back & knees hurt like hell if I walked 2 minutes!
Now one of my goals...longer term...is to walk 5 miles at least 3 times weekly in about an hour. Right now it takes me 30 minutes more or less to do a mile. But given I didn't get out to walk much since last November due to East Coast cold & depression over my baby brothers sudden death I am getting back to where I want to be. Just restarted in April...
I also want to learn body building... am doing light weights right now.
I am bad about going to places like the gym or Y so I admire you. Eileen & others who have the motivation & commitment to do that regularly. Ouch...legs hurt like riding a horse? Reminds me of my 1st horse ride!
I think my short term goal will be prepping meals in advance... have never done that except in my head for what my menu would be for next day!
I gotta run, but did want to thank Trish. I was not being kind...just honestly stating what I see & feel. You are providing a lifetime of love, security & good lessons for those kids. They are blessed!
Everyone have a great day!
Kathy
Katy Your goals are good and doable. As far as exercise goes. I need help on the motivation issue also. that is why I am working with a personal trainer. It is pricey but something I have to do. It was ingrained in me by my father at an early age to always be on time and to respect the time of others. If I have an appointment with someone, I will be ON TIME and I won't cancel unless the cir****tances are dire. So If I schedule a session I will be there. My goals with him are to learn exercises I can do when I travel and at home. I have ankle weights I can travel with and most hotels have some equipment. If I learn how to use the machines at the y I can do them on my own as well. That being said I probably won't do that. I will exercise when I travel because I can enlist my hubby as my prod. At the Y I will probably rely on a few of my neighbors. I just learned that several women near me take classes and they have asked me to join them. They will be my motivation in the future. I have 6 more sessions with Chris and I will keep them and make the most of my time with him. It doesn't hurt that he is easy on the eyes and a nice guy to boot. Ex military working at the Y and going to school. Also in his 20's so I am the old lady and he is very respectful but still makes sure I push myself.
When planning meals make it easy on yourself. Just be sure you have a variety of veggies and protein available ready to go. If you like scheduling things then creating menus might work for you. I am great at that for about a nano second. I prefer to go to the fridge and grab whatever talks to me. If I only have good things to choose from I can't go wrong.
Good luck meeting your goals. You've got this.
Kathy,
I remember, before WLS, my husband and I would go to the store, and I knew where every place in the store was where I could sit. So, we would take the route and while I sat, he would get groceries. For years, I was in a wheel chair so the thought of getting in one of the store wheel chairs didn't appeal to me....but after surgery, we noticed how quickly my walking duration increased. I'm with you on the mobility being the best, by far, gift that I received back...
I totally prep and plan for a week in advance. If I plan, I will buy the foods for that meal and it's so much easier to stick to my eating healthy if I have a plan. I admire your determination and am convinced that you are headed in even further successes. Yeah.....
Hey Linda,
My number one short term goal is to drink water. I'm really bad about just getting enough to keep me upright. LOL...so I think I am going to start filling my water bottle (holds my daily allowance) with water and put in the refrigerator the night before, then I will take it to work and drink all day long....I will keep this water thing going on.....
My friend plays the dulcimer....in fact, she has a blue grass band and I wrote lyrics for her music and for years and years, she and her band would visit with the music and I would write the words....They do play beautiful music.
You will become expert at it....you wait and see.
